Kymatik – Hawkeye / Ultraviolet Hills [Beat Boutique]

DJ Zombi's Beat Boutique follows up a massive release from D-Nox & Beckers by welcoming Kymatik to the label for his debut EP. Since debuting the Kymatik alias, Torsten Fassbender of Wellenrausch fame has carved out a unique cross pollinated sound. Distinctively modern and undeniably fresh, it's led the Berlin based artist to releases on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music, Afterglow and MNL. Now presenting his strongest material to date, Kymatik debuts on Beat Boutique with 'Hawkeye / Ultraviolet Hills'.

The release begins with the captivating ‘Hawkeye’ which features some lovely beat layering and a wealth of quirky motifs. It’s dark, crunchy design immediately creates a dramatic quality which commands your full attention. The percussive waves and chugging foundation come together for a groovy, yet relatively minimalistic framework, sitting comfortably between progressive house and techno. Offset tones, fuzzed out stabs and fragmented vocals create a compelling storyboard throughout the first act, free flowing in narrative and esoteric in mood, it’s incredibly intriguing and would have to be considered one of Kymatik's strongest efforts to date.

The release concludes with the equally brilliant ‘Ultraviolet Hills’. Again the unique design qualities are very apparent throughout with a wealth of haunting motifs, creaking electronics and feathered percussion coming together for a mystical sounding journey. Perhaps a touch more melodic than 'Hawkeye' and thus more emotive, it's a well crafted build into the break which culminates with a classy drop and supremely funky finale act. Super fresh music from Kyamtik and a stunning release for DJ Zombi's Beat Boutique who continues to impress with each and every project. Highly Recommended.
