Kamilo Sanclemente – Alone / Nebular / Eternal [Songspire Records]

Songspire Records continues a strong start to 2020 by welcoming Kamilo Sanclemente back to the label for his debut EP. Long regarded as one of Colombia’s foremost progressive house talents, the Cali resident has found a home on The Soundgarden, Einmusika, and Parquet Recordings, while earning continued support from Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Guy J. Now fresh off an EP for Freegrant Music, Kamilo returns to Songspire with a new three track artist showcase.

Beginning with the euphoric sounds of 'Alone' you get an immediate sense that Kamilo has once again delivered some of his finest work. Tastefully melodic, it’s bouncy arps and buoyant groove unite for a feel good first act. Impassioned overlays and finely tuned percussion add depth and rhythm, before segueing into a gorgeous break of poignant chords stabs and wispy vocal fragments. A smooth build is executed through subtle modulation and a classic drum roll, perfectly setting up a rousing finale.

Continuing with ‘Nebular’ Kamilo goes a touch more hypnotic with a less pronounced and more tranquil lead theme. What’s not lost though is that great sense of rhythm and groove which makes his productions so distinctive. Add to that a hugely satisfying arp and nicely timed break, and the end result is a reflective slice of progressive house that's perfect for the summer months.

Rounding out the release are the deeper, groovy qualities of 'Eternal’. Perhaps the sleekest of the three, it relies on rhythmic pulses, icy pads and a playful arp to translate it's impassioned message. Ghostly vocal trails add a great sense of depth leading in to the break where phasing noise and tasteful modulation effortlessly shift energy into a glowing final act. It rounds out three fresh and inspired cuts from Kamilo who continues to be one of progressive music's brightest talents. Highly recommended.
