Jorgio Kioris – Moonchild [Strange Town Recordings]

Strange Town Recordings returns welcoming Jorgio Kioris to the label for his debut single 'Moonchild'. The Greek artist and Bloque music founder has graced some of progressive music's finest imprints, most notably, Juicebox Music, Movement Recordings and Or Two Strangers. Now fresh off a remix for Soundteller Records, Jorgio debuts on Strange Town alongside remixes from Dowden and Juliane Wolf.

'Moonchild' is rhythmic and spacey from the outset, it’s chugging framework gets complimented with wispy effects and astral sweeps, before pensive overlays lead into the main break. Esoteric yet emotive, a lead theme develops, flowing through quirky modulation before a gentle rush ignites a smooth finale.

Returning to the label and providing the first interpretation is Dowden. The Canadian artist turned in a huge rendition of Adrian Roman's 'Savannah' to begin the year on the Montreal imprint, and also owns 2019 releases on Beat Boutique, Beatfreak Recordings, ICONYC and One Of A Kind. Continuing to deliver peak time progressive house, Dowden provides a suitably large rendition of 'Moonchild' here. The Canadian artist does a wonderful job with a more hearty interpretation that complements the original very well. It’s fuller groove, finely tuned percussion and healthy rhythmic core are all spectacular, building energy across the first act before an emotive interlude transitions the piece into a driving third act.

Rounding out the release and providing the second and final interpretation of 'Moonchild' is Juliane Wolf. The German born, Netherlands based artist is widely regarded for her borderless approach to electronic music. Laying claim to releases on Manual Music, Cinematique, The Soundgarden and her own Wizarding Wolf imprint, the Arnhem resident now debuts on Strange Town with an inspired take on 'Moonchild'. The tempo shifts up a touch while the main theme translates beautifully over a tough, robust foundation. The main break serves as an energy bridge into a gorgeous finale where dreamy overlays and acidic tones unite in a perfect sonic marriage. It caps off a great Strange Town debut for Jorgio Kioris and another well rounded release for the highly regarded Canadian imprint.
