ProG Records debuts this week with a stunning single from Jawkized alongside remixes from Hernan Cattaneo & Soundexile and Pako & Frederik. Headed up by Brent Lawson, Kiz Pattison, George Pritchard (Jawjee) and Zed White the UK based imprint looks to one of the strongest new entries into the progressive scene this year. They’ve certainly set the bar high with a first release that includes two of genres most legendary artists.

Jawkized will be a new name to most as it is the debut of a new production alias for three of the previously mentioned label owners, Jawjee, Kiz and Zed. This meeting of creative minds has yielded something special in ‘Horizons’. A musical, progressive journey for the ages full of warm grooves, rolling rhythms and emotive moments. What makes it quite unique is the main theme which surfaces during the main break. A touch quirky and also incredibly heartfelt, it flows through timely modulation against a backdrop of evolving atmospheres and airy effects. A stunning debut track from Jawkized, let’s hope there are more on the way.

The first remix of 'Horizons' is supplied by Hernan Cattaneo & Soundexile who are a production trio that needs no introduction. Hernan Cattaneo is one of the world's most loved progressive house DJs and his Sudbeat label imprint is widely regarded as one of the best in its field. Soundexile is a Buenos Aires based production duo (who are frequent studio partners with Hernan) who have been crafting unique and inspiring electronic music since 2006. The pair are also very accomplished DJs having shared the booth with Hernan Cattaneo, John Digweed, James Zabiela, Dave Seaman, Sander Kleinenberg and Henry Saiz. For their ‘Horizons’ interpretation the trio have lowered the tempo a touch and focused more on the main theme which dominates a groovy first act, before getting washed way into a break of spacey arps and wispy sonic artefacts. It’s calculated build no doubt comes from the trio’s keen sense of dance floor dynamics and the scaled back drop is quite tasteful. A lovely rendition from Hernan Cattaneo and Soundexile.

The release concludes with Pako & Frederik providing their own unique take on ‘Horizons’. The Dutch duo also have a storied history in progressive house dating back to the mid-nineties with releases on their own Majestic imprint before eventually breaking out in 2000 with releases on Bedrock and Global Underground. Still on fine form the duo have recently released on BTech Noir and Mirabilis Records to much acclaim. For their ‘Horizons’ interpretation Pako & Frederik go for a deeper, dubbier vibe which complements the previous two versions perfectly. Silky smooth and undeniably groovy it’s a late night gem you’re sure to be hearing a lot in the coming months and with a gorgeous atmospheric storyboard it’s one that will stick with you for some time to come. It rounds out an amazing debut release for ProG Records and definitely has us wondering what’s next. Highly Recommended.
