ITTA – Morpho EP [Deepwibe Underground]

Deepwibe Underground continues a strong Spring season by welcoming ITTA to the label for his debut EP. Itamar Rabaiolli aka ITTA hails from Criciúma, Brazil and first came to our attention with an EP on Audio B to round out 2018. His blend of traditional progressive house with techno and tech house sensibilities has made him one of the more intriguing new names in the underground. Now embarking on his most ambitious project to date ITTA debuts on Deepwibe Underground with 'Morpho'.

Beginning with 'Astral Voices' ITTA showcases the deeper, more techno inspired side of his sonic palette. Backed by a punchy, minimalistic groove it’s tight rhythmic core and organic drums quickly grab your attention. Quirky tones and melancholic soundscapes unite across the first break, effortlessly transitioning into a musically rich mid section. With timely modulation building across its six minute journey the second of two breaks sees a ghostly vocal descend over drummy waves, before getting washed away in favour of a percussive finale. Unique and inspired work from ITTA.

The second and also title selection ‘Morpho’ continues the journey with more of a traditional house groove and uniquely charming hooks. Tasteful yet catchy, it's percussive flow and fragmented design makes for an invigorating beginning, before soft vocal tones and funky slabs of bass lock down a massive groove. Almost carnival-esque in a way, it's tonal design is oddly captivating and with a bevy of timely shifts and transitions it ultimately leads to further vocal edits during a tripped out break. Perhaps the biggest build on the EP, it's a near two minute centrepiece which brings together energy and groove perfectly before a storming finish ensues.

The EP is rounded out with ‘Ecstasy’ which finds ITTA going a touch deeper, complementing the previous two selections nicely. Mysterious and groovy in equal measure it's ominous electronics continue to evolve across a robust foundation. Oddly meditative, it's bending tonal themes and indistinct vocals deliver a profound message, one of arcane quality which shifts the narrative further into the unknown before the groove resets leading into the main break. Here the vocal storyboard opens up, offering muffled chuckles amidst a sea of aquatic design, as a smooth build delivers a timely drop and mystical finale. It caps off three unique and inspired tracks from ITTA making him an artist to watch as 2019 moves forward. Highly recommended.
