INNERPHONIC – Ethnic Spirit [Faraway Scope]

Continuing what has been a strong year, Innerphonic returns to their Faraway Scope imprint with 'Ethnic Spirit'. The Belgian duo have been prolific across 2020 beginning with the release of 'Our Groove' in January. The two track offering earned praise from progressive music's key tastemakers, eventually leading to the April releases 'Line of Dream' and 'Last Land', courtesy of Massive Harmony Records and Faraway Scope respectively. Now with a strong push into the spring season, Innerphonic lands back on Faraway Scope with a new two track showcase.

Although their roots are firmly planted in progressive house Innerphonic has explored more organic flavoured hybrids recently. 'Ethnic Spirit' bridges the gap between those genres perfectly with cross cultural motifs and exotic drum detail siting atop a warm, key changing groove. It's this liquid-like flow which makes for such a pleasurable listen, as there are no unnecessarily big moments, rather a narrative which is smooth and groovy with a lot of electronic soul.

The companion piece 'Asia Message' continues the timeless vibes of it's predecessor. Again quite sleek and effortless sounding but with a robust groove and powerful percussion it's got more than enough bounce to light up a dance floor. Although a minor element perhaps, the vocal stabs do a lot here, adding swing and depth to the groove, while perfectly playing off those drifting, oriental flavoured atmospheres. Quality music from Innerphonic who deliver another must have offering via their Faraway Scope imprint. Highly recommended.
