Gux Jimenez – El Inicio | El Fin [Clubsonica Records]

The latest release from Clubsonica Records welcomes Gux Jimenez back to the label for a new EP. Upon making his label debut in February of 2019 with a remix of Moveme's 'Traumtanz', the Colombian artist then went on to release his first artist EP for Clubsonica in March. The year yielded many other successes, with outings for Balkan Connection, Droid9, Juicebox Music, Soundteller Records and UV being the most notable. Now presenting his first project of 2020, the Cartagena resident returns to Clubsonica with 'El Inicio | El Fin' alongside remixes from Kamilo Sanclemente, Juan Pablo Torrez and Dabeat and Giovanny Aparicio.

Beginning with 'El Inicio', Gux sets the tone of the EP with a storyboard of pulsating grooves and euphoric motifs. Anchored by a warm, redolent foundation and waves of fragmented melodies, it's an evolving atmospheric narrative which first captures your imagination. Haunting vocal choirs and trance inducing arps add perfectly to its exhilarating nature, before eventually melting down into a charming break and perfectly setting up an energetic finale. The companion piece 'El Fin' follows suit with charged beats, rolling rhythms and joyous melodic concepts. Built around a series of tantalizing, trance inspired arps, the first act is well fashioned for peak time play. Stripping down into the main break, poignant chord changes add further fuel to its emotive core, before an unabashedly epic build sends the energy into overdrive.

The first interpretation of 'El Fin' is provided by Kamilo Sanclemente, Juan Pablo Torrez and Dabeat. Operating from the heart of Colombia's electronic music scene, this trio of artists have collectively showcased their music on Nick Warren's Hope Recordings, Beatfreak, Parquet Recordings and UV. Beloved as their country's foremost progressive music talents, Kamilo, Juan and Dabeat now unite for a special collaborative remix of 'El Fin'. Fluid and groovy in equal measure, its perfectly contoured foundation moves with a powerful yet buoyant drive. Fresh design qualities make for a commanding rhythm core, while pensive atmospheres add anticipatory vibes leading into the break. Processed vocals and striking tones make for a hugely impactful centrepiece, as mind bending modulation fully saturates your senses leading into a classy drop and ominous finale.

Rounding out the release and providing the second and final interpretation of 'El Fin' is Giovanny Aparicio. Having made his Clubsonica debut in December of 2019 with a remix of Jan Dalvik's 'Mahat', the Colombian artist also released several well received collaborations with fellow countryman Kamilo Sanclemente earlier in the year. Now making a welcome return to Clubsonica, Giovanny provides a stunning rendition of 'El Fin'. The groove gets reworked with great warmth and flow, while a complement of clattering drums, hypnotic arps and misty effects fill in the framework. Musically less pronounced, the Cali resident opts for a meditative yet powerful approach, building tension subtly across the main break though timely modulation, before smoothly segueing into a purring finale.

It caps off another impressive collection of music from Clubsonica and a welcome return to the label for one of Colombia's fastest rising stars Gux Jimenez.
