Gorkiz – Quiet Morning [Deepwibe Underground]

Deepwibe Underground opens the month of June by welcoming Gorkiz to the label for his debut EP. The Brazilian artist and Transensations label boss has been a fixture of his country's progressive music scene for over a decade. The Sao Paulo resident has earned the praise of genre tastemakers Nick Warren and Guy J, while landing releases with Balkan Connection, Droid9 and Stellar Fountain. Now continuing what has been a strong start to 2021, Gorkiz debuts on Deepwibe Underground with his first original project of the year 'Quiet Morning'.

Focusing on the timeless spectrum of progressive house, it is the title selection which gets the EP underway. Warm and well contoured, the groove is bouncy and highly rhythmic. Wavy arps and tepid harmonics work incredibly well together, rising across the first act, while driving percussion pushes momentum forward. The main break furthers the narrative with tasteful modulation and placid atmospheres elevating mood, before the chunky groove drops in for a smooth finish.

Moving on to the second selection ‘Dance in the Moon’ we get more gorgeous atmospheric vibes with a warm, driving groove and reflective harmonics leading the way. As the main break approaches haunting vocal elements trail over the framework, complemented with percussive splashes add lovely rhythmic shifts. It’s the blustery atmospheres which ultimately captivate during the second act, ever evolving and adding just the right amount of emotion as the drop hits at exactly the right moment.

The release concludes with the smooth and groovy vibes of ‘If I Had A Heart’ which adds a reflective mood to complement the previous selections. Likely the most poignant track on the release it’s seven minute running time is a journey into whimsical themes and hazy harmonics, marrying perfectly during a well constructed break which preludes a floating finale. It caps off an excellent Deepwibe Underground debut for Gorkiz who continues to be one of Brazil's freshest progressive music talents. Highly recommended.
