Gaston Sosa – New Beginning [roku]

Continuing a strong spring season, roku welcomes Gaston Sosa to the label for his debut EP. Since first appearing in 2019 as part of 3rd Avenue’s ‘We Are The Future’ series, Argentinean artist Gaston Sosa has enjoyed a steady rise within the global progressive house scene. Noted for his blend of groovy basslines and cutting edge design qualities, the San Luis resident has excelled at creating his own brand of progressive house, making him one of Argentina’s emerging talents. Flown Records, Mango Alley and The Soundgarden, amongst others have been vehicles for some of Gaston’s most notable work, in turn earning support from progressive house tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren. With 2025 being highlighted by an EP for Kebin van Reeken’s Venture Records, Gaston now adds roku to his discography with ‘New Beginning’, alongside remixes from HAFT and Fabri Lopez.

The lead selection 'AMEP' finds Gaston showcasing his dancefloor minded ethos. Its deep drive is anchored by strong kick drums, wispy atmospherics and percussive flashes, tastefully building to a wild-eyed intensity of heartfelt vocals and piano-led melodies. With a poignant spirit, Gaston pulls from his expansive repertoire as the main break takes shape, infusing shimmering synths, hopeful pads and luminous tones with a gentle vortex of orbiting effects; resulting in what is sure to be a memorable dancefloor moment. The companion piece 'Mayo' follows and is an apt barometer of where Gaston's headspace is at, as he lets muscular beats lay the foundation for flickering percussion, squelchy synth mutations and emerging vocals to create a darker monochrome. Energies shift and tension rises, bringing depth and space across a dramatic break, before getting washed away in waves of noise for a thrilling conclusion that’s perfectly dialled for peaktime play.

The lone interpretation of ‘AMEP’ is provided by HAFT who make their label debut. Hailing from Iran, Sam Nasehi and Amir Subb make up the HAFT production duo. A 2017 debut on Pipe & Pochet would establish the duo's blend of mesmerizing synths and exotic percussive arrangements, a sound which would lead them to releases via Akbal Music, Do Not Sit and Hoomidaas across the last half-decade. 2024 has seen HAFT continue to prosper and choose their projects wisely, notching standout releases for Mango Alley, RKP and Warung Recordings. Creative and prolific across the first quarter of 2025, HAFT now continue their explorative path, making their roku debut with a groovy rendition of ‘AMEP’. Warm pulsating basslines and rebounding rhythms set the course for snatches of squelchy synths and wavy arpeggiated sequences to work their magic. A gorgeous contrast from the talented duo, and one which is explored further as the vocal drops, reprocessed for maximum emotional response, before the thunderous framework re-emerges for a melodic finale.

The release concludes with Fabri Lopez making his label debut with the lone interpretation of ‘Mayo’.Once touted as one of Argentina’s top up and coming progressive house producers, Villa Mercedes resident Fabri Lopez is now a well-established veteran of the genre. With a career spanning the better part of a decade, Fabri has taken his far-reaching sound to revered imprints such as Clubsonica, Juicebox Music, Mango Alley, onedotsixtwo and The Soundgarden; while progressive house tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren have been supporters along the way. With a remix for Forty Cats’ PURRFECTION imprint getting Fabri’s 2025 off to a strong start, the Villa Mercedes resident now adds roku to his resume with a resurgent remix of ‘Mayo’. Smooth and rhythmic throughout, the Argentine opts for a peakime approach for what results in an uplifting seven-minute journey. Cosmic effects and deconstructed vocals unite across the first act, perfectly setting up a heartfelt break. Meandering atmospheres create a wispy backdrop as the centrepiece evolves, adding an otherworldly flair to the journey, before a sequence of key changing swells sparks a synth driven drop to close out the release on a spirited note.
