Gaston Ponte – Domination [Soundteller Records]

Gaston Ponte returns to Deersky's Soundteller Records with a new three track artist EP. The Polish imprint has served as a primary home for the Buenos Aires resident since making his debut in November of 2017. This cohesive relationship has seen the Argentine flourish and grow into one of his country's most highly touted progressive house talents. Now following a remix of Radek K's 'Someone Like You', along with an EP for Auditen Music, Gaston once again lands on Soundteller with 'Domination'.

It's a remarkable thing to watch an artist grow and Gaston has certainly done that in spades, presenting his most mature work to date across the three selections here. The title cut 'Domination' begins with organic percussion and a variety of rhythmic elements. Backed by a deep, rolling groove it's momentum is palpable, moving forward with a dominate air. Wispy atmospherics and bright tones lead nicely into the break where a ghostly vocal loop and vivid pads converge with a cinematic flair. Delicate yet tense a gentle roll creeps up, quickly heightening emotion as the warm, bulbous groove drops for a fluid finale.

The second selection 'Loyal Companion' follows suit with energetic pulses and great drum work. Remarkably smooth yet quite bouncy in cadence, it's rhythmic flair immediately sucks you in. Playful hooks and a layer of tonal tension add nicely to the storyboard before a blanket of warmth delivers a magic moment during the main break.

The energy continues to rise with the EP's final selection 'Red Eyes'. A fuller, more driving grooves sits at the foundation while vocal fragments and melodic clusters add an air of melancholy. Charming effects and smooth chord changes bring further depth and emotion, perfectly foreshadowing a reflective break and a spaced out energy bridge into a hopeful finale. Groovy and poignant in equal measure, it rounds out what is another inspired collection of music from Gaston, who continues to be one of Argentina's most prodigious progressive house talents. Highly recommended.
