East Cafe – Odds & Ends (Robert R. Hardy Remixes) [Time Capsule]

East Cafe’s Time Capsule imprint makes a much welcome return this week with two new remixes from Robert R. Hardy. It’s hard to believe but time flies I suppose as it’s been almost two and half years since we last heard from the Hungarian imprint, October of 2015 to be exact. New material from the imprint is a pleasant surprise and it finds Robert R. Hardy remixing two of East Cafe’s originals.

As the years have gone on Robert has definitely shifted his focus from deeper, dubbier output to more melodic, pure progressive sounds. His interpretation of ‘Odds & Ends’ falls well in line with that ethos. Vibrant, playful and highly emotive it’s a concise seven minute journey into tasteful, melodic motifs and fresh rhythmic hooks. There’s certainly a summery vibe here which a spiralling synth adds just the right amount of grit and character to. A gorgeous remix from Robert.

Rounding out the release is Robert’s interpretation of ‘Ashes Of Time’. The original was released on Nikko.Z’s Dopamine Music in September of 2013 and gave us a rare look into the electronica based world of East Cafe. Robert takes the vibe to a deeper place, backed by an expansive groove and an array of impressive drum elements. Intertwined vocal narratives add mightily to it’s smooth, dreamy vibe before a spoken word storyboard highlights the break along with poignant stabs and wispy effects. A great remix from Robert which rounds out an amazing and most welcome release from East Cafe’s Time Capsule imprint. Highly Recommended.
