Releases Diploid – Way Too Long [ICONYC] By Release Promo Posted on 7th August 2021 7 min read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Reddit Share on Linkedin John Johnson's ICONYC marks their first release of August by welcoming Diploid to the label for his debut single. With past releases via DJ Zombi's Beat Boutique and long standing psy-prog powerhouse Iboga Records, Israeli artist Avihai Assraf aka Diploid emerged as one of his countries top electronic music newcomers just over a decade ago. Now presenting the most anticipated track of his career, Diploid makes his ICONYC debut with 'Way Too Long' alongside remixes from Black Space and Reboq. Dark and mysterious at the outset, the original mix evolves into a classy emotive journey across it's seven minute running time. Poignant chord changes, drone-like synths and a vibrant, soul infused vocal work together beautifully, while neatly manicured percussion and bubbly arps sustain a smooth rhythmic drive. An understated break proves to the be the icing on the cake, elevating mood just enough to spark a goosebump worthy finale. First up on the remixes and returning to the label is Black Space. The Swiss artist first appeared on the US imprint in December of last year with a remix of Schormann's 'The Sky Is Still There'. Also laying claim to releases via Einmusika and Natura Viva, Black Space lands on ICONYC once again with a smooth rendition of 'Way Too Long'. Staying true to the main themes and vocal from the original, the Swiss artist reworks the framework for a sleeker, more techno inspired approach. Equally powerful, it offers a less chunky and perhaps more emotive feeling throughout, particularly during an effortless sounding finale, which proves to be quite uplifting. The release concludes with Reboq making his label debut and providing the second and final interpretation. Based in the north east of Italy, Enrico Trevis aka Reboq has been involved in house and techno for over a decade. 2009 marked his production debut where he operated under a variety of monikers, earning support from world class DJs such as Roger Sanchez, until 2019 saw the birth of Reboq. Now firmly entrenched in the world of melodic house and techno, Reboq follows releases for Polyptych and Steyoyoke with a trippy take on 'Way Too Long'. Reprocessed vocals, effervescent percussion and astral effects marry well for a electric feel across the production. Likely the most impactful break of the three, it melts down to tension filled tones and looping vocals, eventually giving way to clattering percussion and emerging lines as the pulsating groove drops for a smooth finale. A powerful remix from Reboq which rounds out one of the better vocal releases so far this year. Don't miss it.
