Inspired By Trees continues a strong spring season by welcoming Decent Groove back to the label for a new EP. Hailing from Lucerne, Switzerland, Lukas and Michael make up the Decent Groove production duo. After working on solo projects for some time, the duo partnered up in 2019 for their Inspired By Trees debut 'Echoes'. Backed by remixes from Donny Carr and Juzz, its groovy, progressive nature set the tone for their partnership moving forward. Now as 2021 approaches it's third quarter, Decent Groove returns to the label with 'Return Of The Girl', alongside a remix from Smalltown Collective.

Whereas 'Echoes' fell into more of a progressive state of mind, Decent Groove's latest comes in more minimal, techy and dubbed out. Clocking in at nearly nine minutes in length, 'Return Of The Girl' works a trippy yet meditative narrative which grows across the track's first act. Cross cultural vocals and quirky acidic hooks play off each other beautifully, while driving percussion and dubby stabs push momentum into the main break. Stripping right down, the centrepiece creates further tension as looping rhythms open with tasteful modulation, as the vocal elements chart a course to a driving, heads down finale.

Making their label debut and providing the lone interpretation of 'Return Of The Girl' is Smalltown Collective. Hailing from the small town of Wil in the eastern part of Switzerland, Smalltown Collective first appeared in 2008 with a string of releases on Plastic City. Home to deep house legends like Terry Lee Brown Jr and Timewriter, the German imprint became the duo's primary home, while also showcasing their music via Hive Audio, Mukke and Systematic. Now following a remix of Pazkal's 'Never Say' to begin the year, Smalltown Collective debut on Inspired By Trees with a groovy interpretation of 'Return Of The Girl'. Tough beats and a romping groove give it immediate energy out of the gate, as deliberate percussion and a wavy arp add nicely to it's driving vibe. Warm overlays add a cool, emotional lean to the journey, which ultimately peaks after a buzzing break. A stunning remix from Smalltown Collective that not only adds a different perspective on the track, but will definitely get a dance floor moving with it's energetic lines.

The release concludes with a second original entitled 'Cambodia', which ups the tempo a touch while keeping the same organic quality of its predecessor. More melodic and progressive minded, bulbous beats and a muscular groove lay the framework for whimsical arps and catchy rhythmic themes to work their magic. An exhilarating build into the main break elevates mood and drama, before placid pads provide a glowing bridge into a lively, key changing finale. A touch reflective sounding, it rounds out a well-crafted release from Decent Groove, a duo who continue to build on their creative synergy here. Highly recommended.
