Cowlam – Totum EP [Polyptych]

Continuing a strong start to the year, Polyptych welcomes Cowlam to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from the UK, the Darlington resident first appeared just over a year ago with releases via Beatfreak Recordings, Freegrant Music and Soundteller Records. With a sound that sits in the creative space between his Afterlife and PRYDA influences, Cowlam now makes his first appearance on Polyptych with 'Totum'.

Beginning with the title selection Cowlam crafts an emotive slice of melodic house and techno. Backed by a warm groove, it's electric rhythms, finely tuned percussion and charming musicality win you over quickly. Pleasant yet mysterious, it’s flair for the dramatic grows alongside a memorable musical narrative, becoming fully realized during an expansive break, before melting down into a sea of colourful harmonics and ghostly overlays.

The companion piece ‘Motion’ follows suit, raising tempo for a creation that leans closer to astral territory. It’s punchy rhythmic core is perfectly constructed, adorned with slabs of contoured bass, choppy percussion and quirky arps. Once again a groovy first act does wonders for dance floor sensibility, serving as a prelude to a pensive break, where luminous atmospheres provide the backdrop for the lead to percolate forward to a groovy finale. A perfect complement to it's predecessor and a fitting conclusion to a strong two track showcase from Cowlam. Highly recommended.
