Hailing from Prague, the Czech artist first appeared in 2015 with a string of releases via Wold Records. The following years saw Blackloud build momentum through offerings on Beatfreak Recordings, Manual Music, MNL and RADIANT, before eventually landing on Balkan Connection in 2020. Now making his first appearance on Polyptych, Blackloud presents a two track showcase entitled 'Textures'. The EP gets underway with 'Wagyu', which finds Blackloud collaborating with I.S.C.O. Rugged and rhythmic in all the right ways, detailed percussion and grainy effects descend over a muscular foundation. Electric synths then steal the air, flowing through modular waves as additional percussive layers drive the narrative forward into the break. At over a minute in length the centrepiece builds tension through rolling effects and timely modulation, before eventually peaking with tasteful chord changes and a powerful drop. Presenting more of a progressive minded mood is the title selection which rounds out the EP quite nicely. Electric and rolling, it's undulating framework gets adorned with crunchy rhythms, lively percussion and kaleidoscopic arps. Tight and fluid across the first act, warm bass swells then shift energy into the main break where tension is once again at a premium. Sonic decay proves impactful here, rising to a sizzling peak as the beats drop for full on finale. Definitely one to light up your dance floor and when paired with its predecessor makes for a stunning Polyptych debut for Blackloud. Highly recommended.
