Avasono – Théo [Inspired By Trees Records]

Inspired By Trees opens the fall season by welcoming Avasono back to the label for a new EP. August of 2020 marked the Swiss artist's debut on the Swiss imprint with the well received 'Terrace' single. Backed by a remix from R/Tistique, the eight minute rework quickly rose to #2 in Avasono's Beatport Top 10, and still sits at #4 over a year later. Now presenting his first project of 2021, the Swiss artist returns to Inspired By Trees with an artist showcase entitled 'Theo'.

Spread across three tracks it is the enchanting sounds of the title selection which lead the EP off. Dating back to his first release in 2015, Avasono has never settled on a particular genre or blueprint for his productions. 'Theo' finds a place in the deeper, more emotive confines of melodic house and techno. Backed by a robust, well contoured groove, it's presence is strong from the outset, as layers of neatly manicured percussion and placid pads advance the narrative. Poignant chord changes elevate mood leading in the main break, perfectly setting up the dimly lit interlude. Impassioned synth phrasing highlights the build, pulling more emotion from the heart of track, before smoothly segueing into a nostalgic sounding finale.

Selection two 'La Maison' comes in deeper and equally poignant with glowing atmospheres and pixie-like effects leading the journey. Unconventional chord changes across the first act bring a uniquely esoteric vibe, one which is both emotive and thought provoking. The break continues to build on that sentiment with Mediterranean style motifs that find a perfect space amidst the colourful surroundings, and eventually melt down to a classy drop and suitably impassioned final movement.

The release concludes with 'Sico' which continues on a similar sonic plain, once again pushing heartwarming narratives through bulbous bass tones and emerging atmospheres. Buoyant percussion adds some nice bounce to the groove, making it an ideal open air or early morning selection, and with another highly stylized break, the impending drop and bass modulation throughout the finale seem perfectly suited to round out the release on a strong note. Gorgeous music from Avasono who has delivered some of his finest work to date across these three selections, which one is your favourite? Highly recommended.
