Alan Cerra – Henkere / Arrival [Juicebox Music]

Continuing what has been a great year, Praveen Achary's Juicebox Music welcomes Alan Cerra back to the label for his first EP. Hailing from Argentina, Alan has been touted as one of the progressive scene's most promising talents. Although only four years into his production career, Alan has already turned heads with his groovy melodic sound. Genre tastemakers Cid Inc, Eelke Kleijn, Hernan Cattaneo, Miss Monique, Tim Green and more have been steadfast supporters along the way, while Higher States, Siona Records and Hoomidaas have served as landing spots for some of Alan's most highly regarded work. With Alan's Juicebox Music debut, a contribution to the label's 'Fables' collection, landing with resounding success in April, the Río Gallegos resident now returns to the Indian imprint with 'Henkere / Arrival', alongside remixes from Aman Anand and Dowden.

EP opener 'Henkere' is an apt barometer of where Alan's headspace is at, as he lets infectious grooves serve as the anchor for catchy chord stabs and alien-like effects to drive energy into the main break. Hopeful melodic fragments and wispy atmospheres emerge tastefully across the interlude, never getting too big or obvious and always leaving something to the imagination which makes for a hugely satisfying journey. Meanwhile, 'Arrival' lands with a greater melodic sensibility, with a catchy lead, timely effects and percussive waves making for a fluid ride, while a second primary theme emerges post-break to tip your dance floor over the edge.

Following on from the success of 2021's Praveen Achary co-produced 'Fiasco', label stalwart Aman Anand returns to deliver the lone interpretation of 'Henkere'. The Indian born, Singapore based artist always seems to find a nice balance between contemporary progressive house and psychedelic inspired design. He does exactly that here, taking inspiration from Alan's energetic original and pushing it a few notches higher with sensory saturating effects and dark muscular grooves.

The release concludes with Dowden making his label debut and providing the lone interpretation of 'Arrival'. As one of Canada's finest progressive music exports, Toronto resident Dowden delivers a standout rendition here, opting for a slightly deeper and less direct approach. Parts get chopped and reprocessed for a heady, slow burning drawl, which ultimately reaches an understated zenith following an arcane break. It caps off a hugely successful project from Alan Cerra, an artist who continues to rise, making great progressive music and choices across 2022, while Juicebox Music further cements it's place amongst the genre’s elite labels.
