John Johnson's ICONYC opens the month of July by welcoming Ziger back to the label for a new single. The Greek artist and Eat My Hat label boss has a long history with the American imprint, dating back to 2016 with the release of of his Traveltech 'Invasion' remix. The next half decade saw Ziger go on to record one additional remix and two singles, with the most recent 'Control' coming in April of 2020. With Beatfreak, Eleatics, Juicebox Music, Movement and Sudbeat also playing host to Ziger's progressive sound over the years, it has been his flagship imprint Eat My Hat which has showcased the majority of his work of late. Following on from a successful debut on SLC-6 Music in March, Ziger now lands back on ICONYC with 'Feel the Bass', alongside remixes from Anakim and Propellar.

Ziger has done a wonderful job at straddling the line between progressive house and melodic house & techno over the last few years. On 'Feel the Bass' he does so again, juxtaposing trance-inducing arps and effervescent percussion over a wobbly, machine-gun style groove. The Eat My Hat boss re-affirms his ability to tip a dance floor over the edge during the centrepiece, as soulful vocals and placid pads strike a colourful marriage, eventually breaking off into rumbling, key changing finale.

The first remix is provided by Anakim who returns to the label following releases via Electronic Elements and Running Clouds. The American artist takes that dark yet enlightening energy from the original and goes a touch deeper with a looser, more swing heavy groove and a strong effects narrative. Much like the original it is the break which proves most impactful, setting a strong atmospheric disposition, before morphing into a reservoir of emotional energy, perfectly setting up a finale of sweeping effects and charming vocal phrasing.

Rounding out the release with the second and final interpretation are Propellar. The Berlin based duo own a tidy discography highlighted by offerings via Family Piknik Music, Stil Vor Talent and Katz & Kauz, the latter of which has served as their primary home. Now adding ICONYC to their resume, the duo take Ziger's 'Feel the Bass' into a deeper headspace, with astral effects and exotic percussive arrangements providing more than enough sensory stimulation to send people home with a smile. A hugely effective remix from Propellar which rounds out a welcome return to ICONYC for Ziger, an artist who continues to evolve and impress within the progressive spectrum. Highly recommended.
