DJ San & Sebastian Moore – Virga [Balkan Connection]

DJ San returns to Balkan Connection alongside countryman Sebastian Moore with 'Virga'. Having remixed GMJ's excellent 'Oranai' in April, the famed Dutch artist now lands back on the Serbian imprint alongside a remix from GMJ & Matter.

DJ San's long history in electronic music is well noted, highlighted by play and support from John Digweed, John 00 Fleming and James Holden, as well as releases on Armada and Outta Limits. Here he teams up with fellow Dutchman Sebastian Moore for a classic progressive workout. Groovy and musical in equal measure, the duo carve out a floor friendly foundation adorned with ghostly vocal wails, fiery percussion and soulful instrumentation, the latter of which carries into the main break for a spectacular interlude.

Two artists that never seem to put a foot wrong are GMJ and Matter. Firm favourites of progressive house tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, the Aussie duo have had a hand in some of the genre's most memorable tracks in recent years. Now they team up for yet another stunning creation, taking 'Virga' into a magical land of melody and colour. Strong rhythms and fluid electronics build a hip swinging cadence across the first act, before a new found theme, haunting overlays and grainy sweeps add a surrealist vibe leading into the break. Masterfully executed, the centrepiece builds tension mightily as a rush of drums, white noise and beats unite for a striking crescendo and suitably powerful finale. A unique creation once again from GMJ and Matter, making this a must have release from Balkan Connection.
