Deeparture – Altitude [Strange Town Recordings]

Strange Town Recordings returns for their final release of 2017 with a new EP from Deeparture. The Canadian imprint had a steady schedule this year, highlighted by music from David Granha, Flowers and Sea Creatures, Tone Depth and Wade Bennett. Now ending the year on a strong note Deeparture presents his debut EP for the label alongside a remix from Lily Pita.

Dominique Vijverberg aka Deepature hails from The Netherlands and has found a home on several Dutch imprints such as Cinematique and Weiter along with US based Proton Music. Fresh off a remix for Particles, Deepature now makes his much anticipated debut on Strange Town with 'Altitude' and 'Clearance'. The former presents a free flowing, feel good vibe, firmly rooted in progressive house territory. Playful, bouncy and melodic, the eight and a half minute journey is highlighted by glowing chord stabs and quirky, pixie-like motifs, the latter of which makes for a memorable break and flowing finale. ‘Clearance’, although a touch deeper carries a similar vibe with serene atmospheres and bubbly melodies leading the way. Vocal pads add a celestial touch before a grandiose break advances the narrative into more emotive territory, foreshadowing a smooth third act conclusion.

The lone interpretation of ‘Altitude’ is provided by Strange Town Recordings artist Lily Pita. The Indonesian artist made her debut on the Canadian imprint last month with her ‘Fly As You Wish / Superwoman’ EP. Now returning for her first remix Lily takes ‘Altitude’ into deeper territory. The BPM’s come down quite a bit here for a smooth, laid back vibe with the melodic elements getting reshaped into something less grandiose yet still powerful and emotive. It’s a gorgeous take and an ideal complement to the larger original. Watching the year Lily had was quite amazing, releasing on Bedrock and becoming a fixture of everyone’s progressive house playlists. The future certainly looks bright and 2018 holds much promise for her.

The same could be said of Strange Town, who after a very successful year are looking to reshape the label a touch in 2018 and take things to the next level. Can't wait to watch it unfold.
