Ziger & Mind Conspiracy – Bitter Sweet [Eat My Hat Music]

9 min read

The latest offering from Eat My Hat Music features a new collaboration from label boss Ziger and label stalwart Mind Conspiracy. The Greek duo have found a great creative synergy this year, beginning with the February release of 'Your Way'. A standout track in the label's catalog thus far, it's electric qualities and peak time sensibility rose to the top of Mind Conspiracy's Beatport best sellers where it still sits at number two. Now looking to create more magic with their collaborative powers, Ziger and Mind Conspiracy present 'Bitter Sweet', alongside remixes from Ruben Karapetyan and Blanka Barbara.

Much like 'Your Way', 'Bitter Sweet' hits with tremendous impact from the outset. Big, muscular beats sit at the heart of a wobbly, well-shaped groove, as layers of percussion and fluid rhythms begin to push momentum forward. Indistinct vocals and wispy atmospheres flow through the framework, adding depth and space leading into the main break. Bringing more of an emotive slant, the centrepiece slowly melts down to waves of flickering arps, as an underbelly of hopefully chord changes spearheads a poignant finale.

Returning to the label and providing the first interpretation of 'Bitter Sweet' is Ruben Karapetyan. The Armenia born; USA based artist made a triumphant return to electronic music in November of last year. Following a ten-year hiatus Ruben's new productions delighted progressive house fans with their combination of musicality and groove. Carrying momentum forward, 2021 has been a resounding success with a string of well received projects for Movement Recordings. Having made his Eat My Hat debut in October with the well-received 'Deeper Thoughts' EP, the California resident continues what has been a great year with a progressive minded take on 'Bitter Sweet'. Setting the piece in motion, a foundation of warm beats, rolling basslines and liquid-like rhythms converge for a wall of momentous energy. Sweeping effects and cross-cultural phrasing blanket the meticulously produced framework, eventually leading to a break of cinematic proportions. Heartfelt chord changes add a unique emotional response across the centrepiece, bringing both symphonic and poignant moods, before smoothly segueing into a spiritually enlightening finale.

The release concludes with Blanka Barbara returning to the label and providing the second and final interpretation of 'Bitter Sweet'. Born in Poland but now based in London, the classically trained pianist and composer has been delighting electronic music fans with her melodic techno sound since first emerging in early 2020. Blanka's Eat My Hat debut 'Lost In a Digital Fog' landed in March of this year with resounding success, currently sitting in the top spot of the label's Beatport best sellers. Also finding a home on Freegrant Music, Mango Alley and Massive Harmony Records, Blanka now returns to Eat My Hat with a powerful take on 'Bitter Sweet'. A perfect balance of warmth and drive provides the foundation for buoyant rhythms and hazy harmonics to work their magic. More techno inspired than the original, a smooth transition into the main break relieves tension for moments of tonal warmth, as processed pianos and colourful arps unite for a classy crescendo and thumping finale. An inspired remix from Blanka which caps off an excellent collaborative project from Ziger and Mind Conspiracy, a talented duo who continue to impress with 'Bitter Sweet'. Don't miss it.
