YAIDE & Zacharias Tiempo – Thematic [Soundteller Records]

YAIDE & Zacharias Tiempo present their debut collaborations via Deersky's Soundteller Records. The former, based in Barcelona has showcased his music on Freegrant while also collaborating with Spanish star D-Formation for a release on his recently launched MIR Music imprint. Meanwhile, based in Finland is Zacharias Tiempo who highlights his discography with outings on BeatFreak Recordings and Dear Deer. Now coming together for the first time Yaide and Tiempo unveil their much anticipated 'Thematic' EP.

Beginning with the title selection you get a feel for the ethos of the release which is a balanced blend of melodic techno and progressive house. Tough beats and a growling wall of sub bass make up the foundation, while astral arps, percussive splashes and vocal fragments fill in the framework. Quite haunting, it's cosmic qualities become compelling during the main break, as it melts down through emotive chord changes before segueing into an otherworldly finale.

The companion piece 'Distance' follows suit with a similarly dark, mysterious vibe. Once again fuelled by moments of drama and emotion, it's foreboding growls gradually open up as elastic-like overlays descend over the framework. The percussive elements are remarkably well tuned, adding further fuel to it's momentous drive, eventually leading to a break of glassy arps and billowing growls which unite for a suitably poignant apex to this cosmic gem. Spacey yet emotive it caps off this intriguing EP for YAIDE, Zacharias and Soundteller Records in fine style. Highly recommended.
