Da Luka’s roku imprint continues a strong start to the year by welcoming VegaZ SL to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from the progressive house hotbed of Sri Lanka, Vegaz SL has established himself with a mesmerizing groovy sound that continues to fuel his country’s dancefloors. On the strength of early tracks in 2021, the Galle resident would go on to compile an impressive resume across the next three calendar years, showcasing his music via Droid9, Mango Alley, Movement Recordings, Sound Avenue, WARPP and his own La Foresta imprint; while some of the world's most highly regarded DJs championed his work along the way. Now, beginning 2024 on a strong note, VegaZ SL debuts on roku with ‘Not In Never Falling’, alongside remixes from Paul Hamilton and Kyotto.

Getting the release underway and sitting as one of VegaZ’s most engaging productions to date is the lead selection ‘Not In Never Falling’. Tight kick drums and a deep, rolling groove set the foundation for a narrative of phasing sonics and cascading stabs. Pushing a deep meditative mood into the break; VegaZ marries growling effects and glowing atmospheres with panoramic melodies across the mood lifting interlude, building anticipation with each successive pass, as a sharp build eventually gives way to a thumping drop and hypnotic finale. The companion piece ‘Me And I’ showcases a deeper more emotive side of VegaZ’s repertoire, as he lightens the vibe with rejuvenating atmospheres and mood lifting melodies, all set over chunky progressive-minded grooves and intricate layers of percussion. Carrying this cruising energy into the main break, VegaZ’s time as a DJ shines as melodies open and space expands, creating an enlightening experience, onwards to an exhilarating credendo and groove-centric conclusion.

The lone interpretation of ‘Not In Never Falling’ is provided by Paul Hamilton who makes his label debut. Maltese artist Paul Hamilton has been one of the underground's most highly regarded progressive house producers for the better part of a decade. Paul has found a home on Armada, Balkan Connection, Droid9, Freegrant Music and Perspectives Digital, while his equally impressive DJ skills have seen him achieve great success, initially winning the Global Heineken Thirst DJ Competition in 2005, while receiving praise from Sander Kleinenberg in the process, and in turn performing at world renowned venues Ministry Of Sound and Godskitchen, amongst others. Now, continuing his accent in the world of progressive house, Paul makes his roku debut with a huge rendition of ‘Not In Never Falling’. Drawing inspiration from the original, Paul adds considerable muscle to the groove with thunderous beats and full rolling basslines, which set the foundation for what proves to be an exhilarating dancefloor experience. Emotive and rhythmic throughout, it's a gorgeous amalgamation of sound which builds and cruises, tastefully withholding energy, until a dreamy break resets the journey for a finale that is equal parts meditative and cosmic.

The release concludes with Kyotto making his label debut with the lone interpretation of ‘Me And I’. First emerging in 2017, Sri Lankan artist Kyotto was quickly tipped as one of his country’s most promising progressive house artists. Releases via JEE Productions, Mango Alley, Sound Avenue and his own CRFT Music imprint have been recent discography highlights, while Hernan Cattaneo continues to be steadfast with support. Continuing to rise out of his country’s electronic landscape, Kyotto now debuts on roku with a heady take on ‘Me And I’. Focusing on a slightly darker monochrome, the Colombo resident takes aim at the dancefloor for what results in a slow-burning seven-minute journey. Gyrating rhythms and deep chugging basslines set the course for snatches of flickering percussion and shapeshifting effects. Looking to bring a surreal yet dramatic response, the main break shifts the narrative through anticipatory arps and a growling underbelly, before a contemporary build cues a stripped back drop and prophetic finale, one which an astute dancefloor will certainly appreciate.
