Various Artists – Summer 2021 [La Cura de la Semana]

Presenting their second release of the year, Ryan's La Cura de la Semana unveils the first installment of their sampler series. Following on from the April release of Fernando Olaya's 'Figarus' EP, the Cuban imprint marks the summer season with their 'Summer 2021' collection. With an emphasis on progressive house and melodic house and techno, La Cura de la Semana shows how far reaching electronic music really is, with the Summer 2021 collection landing in four different countries to curate the project. Featured on the release (in order of appearance) are: ODAX, Kaito Aman, Salazar and Christian Monique.

Hailing from La Cura de la Semana's home country of Cuba is label debutant ODAX who leads the release off. A professional producer for well over a decade, ODAX has composed music for contemporary dance, theater, advertising and audiovisuals, along with being a part of the Nacional Electrónica and I.A production duos. 'Increase Your...' marks his first released track under the ODAX alias and he's established an energetic progressive sound for the project. Backed by a warm groove, it’s serene atmospheres and dulcet motifs make for a tepid nine minute journey that's highlighted by buoyant arps, sweeping effects and smooth transitions, all of which interact and strike in a timely fashion to make for a bevy of dynamic moments along the way.

The second selection finds Brazilian artist Kaito Aman making his label debut with 'Low Pressure'. The Terasonic Records label boss has continued to delight progressive music fans with his releases via Antrim's Or Two Strangers, Future Avenue, Just Movement, Soundteller and Transensations. His contribution to the 'Summer 2021' collection features a deep, percussive narrative that captures imagination for it's unique rhythmic drive and tasteful melodic approach. The swing heavy groove carries the journey beautifully, which sees colourful overlays and layers of exotic drums pave the way to a glowing break of vocal choirs and cascading motifs. A refined and modern sounding construction that should fair well in a variety of dance floor scenarios.

Moving forward to selection three is well known Colombian talent Salazar who also makes his label debut. With a discography that dates back to 2018, it was 2019 that produced a break out moment for the Medellin resident. The release of 'Tabby' via Onestar records saw extensive play from progressive music tastemaker Nick Warren and ultimately set the course for future releases courtesy of 3rd Avenue, Aletheia Recordings, Clubsonica Records and Massive Harmony. His contribution to the 'Summer 2021' collection entitled 'G-Force' proves to be one of his most engaging creations to date. A tantalizing lead motif borders on the cross cultural and ultimately leads this enlightening journey. Seemingly in constant evolution, colourful textures marry goosebump inducing arps across the seven minute jaunt, with timely modulation and a rolling rhythmic core translating it's mystical message to the dance floor.

The release concludes with Christian Monique also making his label debut with 'Nibius'. The Italian artist has been prolific dating back to his first release in 2016 with 3rd Avenue, Balkan Connection, Droid9 and Stellar Fountain all being landing spots for his progressive sound. Now following a contribution to Nick Warren's The Soundgarden 'Summer Collection', Christian continues that momentum with his La Cura de la Semana debut 'Nibius'. Focusing on a cross cultural narrative, it's an Arabic vocal, organic percussion and transcendent musicality which power this eight minute gem. Deep and mystical throughout, a classy yet impactful apex is reached as sweeping effects blanket the trance inducing groove on wards to a spine tingling finale. A stunning track from Christian, which is a fitting way to conclude the first installment of La Cura de la Semana's Sampler series, a release which furthers the Cuban's imprints strong foundation and looks forward to an even brighter future. Highly recommended.
