Various Artists – MMW 2019 Sampler [Clubsonica Records]

The 54th release on Clubsonica Records finds the label showcasing the 2019 edition of its MMW Sampler. Long a testing ground for some of the underground's freshest new tracks, Miami Music Week sees artists, DJs, labels and industry brands from all corners of the world travelling to the storied event. After a hugely successful inaugural collection last year, Clubsonica now presents the 2019 edition of the series featuring new music from (in order of appearance): Aeikus, Anton Borin, Creative Machine, Gabriel Nery and Salazar.

The release begins by welcoming Aeikus back to the label following his 'Talk About Stars' EP from May of last year. The Brazilian artist also contributed to the label's 2018 ADE Sampler in fine style and now leads off the 2019 MMW Sampler with 'Manipura'. It's dark, crunchy design immediately creates a dramatic quality which commands your full attention. Sitting comfortably between progressive house and techno, quirky electronics and a tough foundation come together for a groovy, yet spacious framework. A cascading lead theme and bubbly arp intertwine during an astral break, rising in intensity for a wondrously cosmic apex.

Next up and making his label debut with 'Rider' is Anton Borin. The Russian artist began his career with a string of well received efforts on Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic's Mistique Music. Now after beginning the year with a single on Specific Music, Anton debuts on Clubsonica with his most anticipated track to date 'Rider'. Deliberate and dynamic from the outset it's dark electronics and finely tuned percussion eventually give way to a playful melodic concept. Uniquely crafted, it's spacey qualities are abundantly pleasing, transporting the listener through a maze of colourful sonics and tasteful hooks, before a stomping third act seals it's dance floor appeal.

The collection's halfway point is marked by another label debutant Creative Machine. Hailing from Bogota, the Colombian artist is also known for his Castiblanco alias where he has found a home on Great Stuff Recordings, Monique Music and Natura Viva. As Creative Machine he explores the more melodic shades of house, having already receiving praise from progressive trance legends Solarstone. His latest creation 'Gotas' falls nicely within that ethos, boasting a robust groove and euphoric musical concepts. Resonating on a heartfelt frequency, it's an eight minute journey of buoyant motifs, charming effects and textural bliss; ultimately highlighted by a second act of tasteful plucks, before smoothly shifting energy into a glowing finale.

Also making his label debut is Gabriel Nery with his latest studio creation 'Spirits Drifting'. Hailing from Misiones/Buenos Aires, the Argentinean artist has been a firm favourite of Hernan Cattaneo over the last three years. The legendary DJ has charted and played a multitude of Gabriel's tracks while he has also found a home on Dopamine Music and MNL. Now stepping up to Clubsonica, Gabriel presents his most anticipated creation to date 'Spirits Drifting'. Beginning with a big chugging groove, bulbous stabs and a barrage of claps it carries an unquestionably large presence. Waves of atmospheric noise continue to elevate the narrative, building an enormous amount of tension, before a glowing melodic theme shifts the mood for what should be a magical club moment.

The release concludes in fine style with a fourth label debutant Salazar. The Colombian artist is fresh off a stunning EP for Onestar Records which earned months of play from Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren. Already generating considerable buzz in the progressive underground, Salazar now makes his first appearance on Clubsonica with 'Rubatto'. Although the Colombian's discography is short his unique blend of electric moods and pure progressive sensibilities have already become a unique sonic blueprint. 'Rubatto' more than follows suit with its powerful drive, cosmic effects and pixie-like melodies. Beautifully crafted and tastefully epic, it puts a resounding cap on a stunning MMW Sampler from Clubsonica Records, one where fresh talent provides a multitude of memorable moments.
