Releases UOIO & Luke Garcia – Polestar [Asymmetric Recordings] By Release Promo Posted on 21st June 2018 0 second read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Reddit Share on Linkedin Lonya’s Asymmetric Recordings returns with a fresh collaborative EP from Luke Garcia and UOIO. The Spanish duo have been sometime studio partners with previous efforts for Dear Deer and Us And Them Records, where their unique style of melodic techno has flourished. Now making their much anticipated debut on Asymmetric Recordings the duo present their ‘Polestar’ EP alongside a remix from Lonya. Beginning with the title piece you get a great sense of the studio synergy UOIO and Luke have. Intense and dramatic from the outset there is a devilish vibe running through this one. It’s perfectly contoured beats sit wonderfully in a bed of rippling bass while razor sharp electronics cut through rising atmospheres. Two breaks come at timely moments, shifting the narrative ever so subtly, while never losing sense of it’s heightened hypnotic drive. The second selection ‘Shamanism’ takes a more cross cultural approach, featuring the vocals of Gennady Tkachenko Papizh. Feelings of hope and despair are prevalent throughout but it’s the cinematic almost operatic intensity of the break which really tells the story, and ultimately sets up a powerful final. A marvellous piece of music. The third and final selection ‘Spherical’ rounds out the dark and trippy three track sound story perfectly. A buzzing low end immediately grabs your attention and the scattered percussive narrative is compelling as well, but ultimately it’s the spooky lead themes which resonate the most, playing off raspy swells on their way to an exhilarating crescendo. It’s big, bold and tailor made for an Afterlife party or fan. The lone interpretation of ‘Polestar’ is provided by Lonya who is fresh off a collaborative effort with Guy Mantzur as part of Selador’s 5th birthday release. The Asymmetric boss continues his creative streak here with a killer rendition of ‘Polestar’. The dramatic, tension filled vibe of the original is well conveyed but with even more umph. The groove is fluid and bouncy, allowing it to crossover into progressive sets with ease while the main break builds to a sizzling apex before a stripped back drop seals a wicked finale. Definitely one for a peak time dance floor and a great way to round out one of Asymmetric’s best releases of the year. Highly Recommended.
