Torsten Fassbender – Echion [Strange Town Recordings]

Strange Town Recordings gets 2020 underway by welcoming Torsten Fassbender to the label for his debut single. Also known as Kymatik and one half of Wellenrausch, the German artist has been using his given name of late for key releases on Black Hole Recordings, Mango Alley and Platipus. Now presenting his first release of the year Torsten debuts on Strange Town with 'Echion' alongside remixes from AIO and Alex O'Rion.

Known for his borderless style, Torsten’s creations often sit comfortably in the creative space between progressive house and techno. 'Echion' is no different and is a highly creative, deeply musical piece which is sure to resonate with both listeners and club goers. On a bed of tight, punchy beats and grungy bass swells comes glistening arps and finely tuned percussion. Moderately tense, the first act evolves with a more distinct musical narrative. Timeless in style and flawless in execution, it's this cross cultural mood which makes up the heart of the track, dominating the centrepeice along with stunning sonic artifacts, before muted beats and frayed percussion shift energy into a glowing finale.

The first interpretation of ‘Echion’ is provided by AIO who makes his label debut. The German artist lays claim to releases on Parquet Recordings and KELLER, while also gaining considerable acclaim for his programming skills as a DJ. Now making his Strange Town debut, AIO puts his own unique twist on 'Echion'. Raw and groovy in equal measure it’s a mix that dubs down the main themes from the original and opts for a more rhythmic headspace. Fragmented motifs, low slung bass swells and a wide array of mind bending effects highlight this incredible seven minute journey, while a well constructed break adds just the right amount of tension for a clued up dance floor.

Rounding out the release and providing the second and final interpretation of 'Echion' is Alex O'Rion who also makes his label debut. In addition to appearances on Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music, the Dutch artist has also found a home on Nick Warren’s Hope Recordings and Cid Inc’s Replug Records. 2019 proved to be a year of much success, capped off in fine style with a chart topping remix for Clubsonica Records. Now continuing that impressive momentum, Alex debuts on Strange Town with a stunning take on 'Echion'. The main themes get utilized beautifully here but over a more progressive minded and character rich foundation. Deep and rumbling, this carries a massive presence, marrying perfectly with the spiritual message from the original and resulting in sure fire dance floor destruction. Another bomb from Alex, capping off an amazing release for Strange Town Recordings to begin their 2020 run. Highly recommended.
