The Cobb – Reflection [Deepwibe Underground]

Following up the excellent 'Rose', -102C label manager The Cobb returns to affiliate Deepwibe Underground with a new single entitled 'Reflection'. Firmly established in the worlds of progressive and organic house, the Russian artist has split time between -102C and Deepwibe Underground since first appearing a year ago. Now eleven credits deep into his discography, The Cobb continues to delight his fans and contemporaries while earning support from a broad selection of electronic tastemakers. For an artist who began his journey into production with a sound firmly rooted in progressive house, the last year has seen The Cobb evolve with the organic trends which sit so predominately in the electronic music landscape at the moment. Now continuing to blur the lines between progressive and organic, The Cobb returns to Deepwibe Underground with 'Reflection', alongside remixes from GMJ, Kamilo Sanclemente and Nopi.

Coming off a string of organic house releases, The Cobb once again flexes his production versatility on 'Reflection' with a dark, muscular slice of progressive house. The word electric suits this creation perfectly with it's buzzing synth lines and robust, driving groove. Vocal-like stabs and timely percussive fills make for a dynamic first act and perfectly set up a more melodic themed break. Growling bass tones set a tense foundation for spine tingling melodies to work their magic across the interlude, building with a cinematic flair onwards to a thumping finale.

Deepwibe Underground has assembled an all-star remixer cast for this one, beginning with the always excellent GMJ. It's been another incredible year for the Aussie artist and meanwhile boss. The Melbourne resident is fresh off releases for Nick Warren's The Soundgarden, Clubsonica Records and Sound Avenue. Now he adds Deepwibe Underground to his resume with a deep, hypnotic take on 'Reflection'. The drive of the original comes down a notch here for a spacious and supremely meditative journey. Flickering percussion and chunky bass tones sound fabulous as the first act evolves, setting the framework for a colourful blend of melodic fragments and airy effects to work their magic. The main break does touch on the electric qualities of the original, but in a much dubbier, below the surface fashion, and once that bassline drops to set the final act in motion you get a much more profound sense of just how powerful it is.

Also making his label debut is Kamilo Sanclemente who provides the second interpretation of 'Reflection'. Long regarded as one of Colombia’s foremost progressive house talents, the Cali resident has found a home on Anjunadeep, Replug and The Soundgarden, while earning continued support from Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren. As one of the more prolific artists within the progressive spectrum, Kamilo's creativity never seems to waiver, pulling off remarkable remixes and sought after collaborations on a routine basis. Here he dials in a powerful rework of 'Reflection' which has already earned praise from the genre's elite guard. Geared for peak time play, Kamilo's dynamic grooves, acidic rhythms and lively percussive arrangements will add bounce to any dance floor. While staying true to the darker tone of the original, the break does open up for moments of reflective warmth, setting up a seamless shift into more emotive territory across an uplifting finale.

Returning to the label and rounding out the release with the final remix is Nopi. Although only emerging a few short years ago, the Ukrainian artist has showcased his blend of organic and progressive house on some of he underground's most beloved labels. Akbal Music, Anjunadeep, Do Not Sit, Replug, Proton Music and Sound Avenue have all played host to his groovy sounds. Having made his Deepwibe Underground debut in June with the well received 'Libido' single, Nopi now returns to the label for his first remix. Taking things in a deeper direction, Nopi adds some lovely organic qualities to the mix. From exotic percussive arrangements to a backdrop of hazy atmospheres, spiritual vocal phrasing and airy effects, it all amounts to an emotive message that gets effortlessly translated to the dance floor with mountainous grooves and warm, pulsating beats. Otherworldly stuff from Nopi once again, capping off one of Deepwibe Underground's most star studded releases to date. Highly recommended.
