The Cobb – Elysium [Deepwibe Underground]

Continuing a strong start to the year, Deepwibe Underground welcomes The Cobb back to the label for a new single. First appearing in 2020 with two releases via the Estonian imprint, the Russian artist firmly established himself as a new name in the progressive music landscape. A decade long history as a DJ at some of Russia's most highly regarded clubs have made his productions ideal for the dance floor, earning support from Sasha and Guy J. Now continuing to build momentum in the production world, The Cobb returns to Deepwibe Underground with 'Elysium' alongside remixes from Dmitry Molosh, Kostya Outta and Monograph.

Beginning with the Original Mix, The Cobb delivers one of his best productions to date. Led by a punchy groove, electric rhythms and arpeggiated fragments, its tough yet ethereal nature proves to be quite inviting. Dark but uplifting, the first act builds with a smooth, effortless glide, incorporating more arp themes while that thumping groove continues to add additional bounce. Advancing further across the main break, it’s flair for the dramatic grows, with the introduction of an intriguing vocal and further melodic meanderings as the beats drop for a groovy finale.

The first interpretation is provided by Dmitry Molosh who makes his label debut. The Belarus based producer sits firmly in progressive music's elite class of artists, showcasing his music via Cid Inc's Replug Records, Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music, Nick Warren's Hope Recordings and Balance Music. As a mainstay in Beatport's sales charts, Dmitry now makes a welcome Deepwibe Underground debut with a powerful rendition of 'Elysium'. Electrically charged with punchy beats and a tighter take on the groove, it’s energetic prowess beams brightly from the outset. Combining dynamic rhythms with crisp percussion and dreamy arps makes for a sleek yet exhilarating first act. A stunning effects narrative heightens the senses as modulation rises leading into the break. Grandiose and dramatic in equal measure, pixie-like melodies highlight the centrepiece, elevating mood before getting washed away as the groove gallops towards a stirring final movement.

Also making his label debut and providing the second interpretation is Kostya Outta. Based in Belarus, Kostya enjoyed his best year on record in 2020, notching releases on Balkan Connection, BCSA and One Of A Kind. Now presenting his first production of the year, Kostya provides a groovy take on 'Elysium'. It's galloping foundation rolls along nicely, while a complement of cosmic arps, astral melodies and driving percussion fill in the framework. Tastefully musical, the Belarus artist opts for a sleek yet powerful approach, building emotion as the melodies open up during the break, perfectly setting up a captivating build and hypnotic finale.

Rounding out the release with the third and final interpretation is label artist Monograph. The cross continental duo continue to be one of the more underrated artists in progressive music. High level production with dance floor inspired creativity makes their work quite special. Now coming off a year with a trio of collaborations and two remixes, Monograph return to Deepwibe for another boundless remix. Bringing the tempo back down from the previous two versions makes for a greater emphasis on rhythm and groove. Concise at just over six minutes in length, the duo work hypnotic arps over spastic effects and a muscular foundation, before an emotionally driven break seals it's brilliance. A superb remix from Monograph which caps off what is likely Deepwibe Underground's best release to date. Highly recommended.
