Tash – Theros/Truce [Juicebox Music]

0 second read

Praveen Achary's Juicebox Music returns with another monumental release this week, welcoming Tash for his label debut. The Greek artist and Movement Recordings label boss has been a primary fixture of the progressive house underground for over a decade. In addition to hosting some of Greece's finest events, Tash has also released his music on a host of quality imprints, most notably Beat Boutique, Flow Vinyl, ICONYC and Soundteller Records. Needless to say his Juicebox debut is long overdue and it comes alongside two wonderful remixes from Erdi Irmak and Pat Siaz.

Although perhaps best known for his peak time progressive cuts Tash goes deeper on the first selection 'Theros'. It's organic beats, charming melodies and wistful atmospheres would be equally at home in a deep or progressive house set. The companion piece 'Truce' comes in a touch darker and more techno inspired. It's stripped, chuggy framework is adorned with wonky synths and hypnotic arps, for what results in a distinctly modern feel. There's a unique vibe here, particularly during the break which effortlessly shifts energy into a more powerful and groove oriented finale.

The lone remix of 'Theros' finds Erdi Irmak returning to the label for his second appearance. The Turkish artist first appeared on the Indian imprint in June of 2017 with a remix of 'Alchemic Angels' by Greg Tomaz, while also owning releases on Asymmetric Recordings, ICONYC, Manual Music and Sound Avenue. Known for his diversity, Erdi reshapes 'Theros' into a warmer, groovier version of the original, while still retaining and expanding on the melodic themes wonderfully. Further evidence that the worlds between deep and progressive house are getting closer and closer, this should sit well on a wide variety of dance floors.

The lone interpretation of 'Truce' is provided by Pat Siaz who is making his label debut. Panayiotis Patsias aka Pat Siaz hails from Cyprus and has been pushing his unique brand of melodic techno since 2014. 2017 proved to be his best year to date, highlighted by releases on One Of A Kind, Movement Recordings and Sound Avenue. Now presenting his first production of 2018 Pat puts a deeper, dreamier twist on 'Truce'. The vocal narrative is strong throughout as it ebbs and flows through a punchy framework and wispy atmospheric resonance. A perfect complement to the more robust original and it rounds out the release on a reflective note. More brilliance from Juicebox Music who are tactfully building an exceptional artist roster of established names and fresh, cutting edge new comers.
