Savrun Brothers – Quid Pro Quo [Soundteller Records]

Continuing to build Turkey's progressive music scene, the Savrun Brothers debut on Soundteller Records with 'Quid Pro Quo'. Made up of real life brothers Kenan and Mahmuthan Savrun, the Turkish duo have just one release thus far, an EP for Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic's Mistique Music, while Kenan's solo career has yielded several quality outings, with 3rd Avenue, Droid9, Eat My Hat Music and Juicebox Music being the vehicles for several of those. Also no stranger to Soundteller, Kenan has recorded an EP and two remixes for the Polish imprint over the last two years. Now returning to the label with his brother Mahmuthan, the duo present 'Quid Pro Quo' alongside remixes from Fabri Lopez and Da Luka.

Following on from the pure progressive style of their debut 'Levitation', the duo craft another mystical journey full of soul in 'Quid Pro Quo'. A rumbling groove lays the foundation for a narrative of cross cultural motifs and haunting vocals which ultimately carry the nine minute creation. Crisp percussion, evolving atmospheres and sweeping effects provide a colourful top line, before the main break adds a cosmic flair with the vocals getting processed further for an even trippier finale.

One of progressive music's producers of the moment Fabri Lopez returns to the label and provides the first remix. Following well received outings for Clubsonica and Droid9 Limited, the Argentinean artist returns to Poland's premiere progressive imprint for his third appearance. Fabri's robust yet groovy style lends itself well to Quid Pro Quo's unique features, as he takes it's electric sound and heightens it for peak time play. An array of growling stabs and effects give it some serious bite early, before drifting into atmospheric territory as vocal fragments and clustered melodies highlight a memorable centrepiece.

Also returning to the label and providing the final remix of 'Quid Pro Quo' is Da Luka. The Albanian artist has grown into his country’s premiere progressive house talent, backed by the support of Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Guy J and Cid Inc, while releases on Balkan Connection, Dopamine White, Droid9 and One Of A Kind highlight his discography. Now returning to Soundteller, Da Luka adds further depth to the release with a driving, percussive version that utilzes the main parts beautifully. The vocals get further processed into some ethereal sounding gates, only to open up following the main break for a glowing moment to end the release in style. An excellent label debut for the Savrun Brothers who deliver a timeless progressive beauty here. Highly recommended.
