The Mexican artist first appeared on the US imprint in October of last year with his 'Kyoshi' EP. The Morelia resident has also found a home on Bonzai Records,Spring Tube and Symmetric Records where is melodic progressive sound has flourished. Now following an EP for Backstage Music, Samer returns to Droid9 with 'Purepecha'. Spread across two tracks it’s the peak time sensibility of the title selection which gets the EP underway. Warm beats, electric rhythms and sweeping effects set the tone, as layers of finely tuned percussion advance the narrative. Tastefully executed, it's aquatic arps, timely drum fills and fragmented vocals highlight the first act. The break serves as an atmospheric reservoir, melting down for moments of calm, before effortlessly shifting energy into a driving finale. The companion piece ‘Tlaloc’ operates in a similar sonic space, acting as an ideal companion to it's predecessor. A touch deeper and more hypnotic, it’s a sequence of otherworldly effects and shimmering arps which make for a powerful first act. A tranquil break furthers the hypnotic qualities of the piece, introducing a fuzzy lead theme which sparks a powerful drop and exhilarating final movement. It rounds out a sensational EP from Samer, who continues to be one of Mexico's fastest rising progressive house talents. Highly recommended.
