Pea K Five – Sirocco EP [Soundteller Records]

Continuing to diversity their roster, Soundteller Records welcomes Pea K Five to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from France and showcasing an exotic sound, Pea K Five has just one release to his credit, a contribution to Akbal Music's 'Winter Wonderland' collection. The groovy, cross-cultural vibes of 'The Riverside' were a highlight of the release and alerted the Organic House community of a rising new talent. Now continuing to build on that momentum, Pea K Five debuts on Soundteller with 'Sirocco'.

The lead track 'Apple Juice' is quite unique on a variety of levels. From it's deeper beginnings comes a fresh blend of processed vocals and wonky effects which perfectly complement a well carved acidic groove. Icy vocal pads add a great sense of space as the acid lines open up, eventually reaching a tweaky apex during a gamer-esque main break, before shifting mood again into a finale that is equal parts groovy and emotive.

The companion piece 'Our Home' follows suit with a similar and equally brilliant quirky quality. Once again anchored by a bulbous low end, it's fluid undulation works perfectly with detailed drums and intricate effects. With a mild cross cultural lean the narrative evolves beautifully with a fluttery lead line sweeping across the stereo field, before a jangly hook resets the groove for a mystical finale. It rounds out one of the more inspired debuts of the year perhaps, with Pea K Five laying down a unique sound that could really set him apart going forward. Highly recommended.
