Pea K Five – Foehn [Soundteller Records]

Deersky’s Soundteller Records welcomes Pea K Five back to the label for a new EP entitled ‘Feohn’. The French artist has found a comfortable home on the Polish imprint with two EPs and a single being released following his debut for Akbal Music in 2021. Continuing to explore the organic sounds he has become known for, Pea K Five begins 2022 with a new two-track showcase for Soundteller Records.

As Peak K Five continues to operate at a creative peak, it is the exotic sounds of ‘Amazonia' which set the course for his 2022 journey. Played out over eight sun-drenched minutes, a storyboard of organic percussion and Mediterranean motifs gets intertwined with chunky bass tones and spirited synth phrasing. Void of any conventional break the inevitable zenith comes during a brief second act where a carnival-inspired arp provides a segue into a buoyant, percussive and positively glowing finale.

Coming in with a similar flavour is the companion piece ‘Pschitt Pschitt’. Acting as an ideal complement to its predecessor, a forest of exotic drums and lucid instrumentation paints a celebratory narrative. Balmy overlays provide a bridge into the main break where tension mounts through tasteful modulation and a striking drum roll, which ultimately spearheads a jubilant final act. It rounds out two exceptional tracks from Pea K Five, who not only makes a welcome return to Soundteller, but gets his 2022 off to a tremendous start. Highly recommended.
