Paul Hamilton & CaThY K – Debauchery [Deepwibe Underground]

The latest release from Deepwibe Underground welcomes Paul Hamilton and CaThY K to the label for their debut EP. The former, born in Malta and now based in Dubai, is one of the underground's most highly regarded progressive house artists. Paul has found a home on Armada, Balkan Connection, Droid9, Freegrant Music and Perspectives Digital, while his equally impressive DJ skills have seen him perform at Ministry Of Sound (Dubai) and Godskitchen (Dubai). Also hailing from Malta is CaThY K who has been a fixture of the country's nightlife for the better part of two decades. Her unique track selection and exquisite programming skills have led her to perform in some of Malta's trendiest venues alongside top international and Maltese talent. Also well established as producer, CaThY has been perfecting her craft for over six years and lays claim to an impressive resume, with releases via Another Life Music, Droid9, SLC-6 Music and Soundteller Records. Having delivered a track for Deepwibe's Digital imprint earlier this year, Paul and Cathy now debut on the label's primary platform with 'Debauchery'.

Flexing their collaborative powers, the EP begins with the groovy sounds of the title selection. Here Paul and Cathy craft a deep, chunky foundation with a nostalgic tinge, while layers of flickering percussion and ominous atmospheres slowly surround the framework. This is mood setting material at it's best and while the scope of the journey continues to grow it isn't until the main break where we get multiple explosions of serotonin. Metallic riffs dominate the centrepiece, creating an electric air, all while maintaining the track's cool low slung mood.

Selection two 'Different Intentions' continues on that same level with deep chugging grooves and exotic drums serving as the backbone for bleepy loops and waves of haunting atmospherics. A well crafted break sits at the core of the journey with nothing big or overblown to ruin the mood, but rather a smooth hazy build into powerful beats and soundscape science.

Rounding out the release is 'Muusiiqaa' which is mysterious and mystical from the outset. A heavier emphasis on effects makes for a tripper vibe compared to it's predecessors, but the same groove-centric appeal ultimately carries the journey towards fluttery second act melodies, before a vortex of percussion and noise spark a commanding drop. Thrilling stuff from Paul and Cathy who make an impressive Deepwibe Underground debut with three dominate progressive creations. Don't miss it.
