Nicolas Giordano – Alma [Stellar Fountain]

8 min read

Stellar Fountain closes out the month of November with a new single from Nicolas Giordano. Hailing from Argentina, Nicolas Giordano first emerged in 2020 with releases via Bevel Rec and Massive Harmony Records. Recognized for his deep progressive sound, the Buenos Aires resident would continue to perfect his craft, and in turn land projects via -102C, The Purr, Rynth, Flug Lab and more. With Nicolas making his Stellar Fountain debut earlier this month with a remix of Mauro Masi & Julian Liander, he now returns for his first single 'Alma', alongside remixes from  Leo Perez & Dhany G, Missfeat and OHMZ.

The orignal mix finds a nice balance between organic and progressive house. A big muscular low end sits prominently in the mix, ultimately setting the course for cross-cultural themes and nicely manicured percussion. Indistinct vocal samples meander through the mix at timely moments but it is the otherworldly instrumentation which carries the narrative, particularly through a charming break and eventually a thumping finale.

Three remixes provide a myriad of different dance floor approaches, beginning with Leo Perez and Dhany G. Hailing from Panama and Cuba respectively, the regular studio partners bring their pristine production quality and fresh ideas here. While the lead elements get utilized beautifully, this is more of a lesson in rhythm and groove. Layered basslines provide sizable swing throughout, playing off vibrant organic arrangements, gentle chord stabs and hypno-arps, before the lead theme delights durning the main break, perfectly spearheading a chugging finish.

Next up is Missfeat who makes their label debut with the second interpretation of 'Alma'. The French duo come off releases for 3rd Avenue, Cigarette Music and The Purr with a deep and enchanting rework here. Clever drum arrangements give this mix a bit more of a live, exotic feel, while the main themes again get worked nicely across its near eight minute running time. The break stands out with its warm swells, denser atmosphere and overall elevated tension, which makes for a powerful drop and groovy, percussive finale.

The release concludes with OHMZ making his label debut with the third and final remix of 'Alma'. Best known for his releases via Particles, Sound Avenue and The Purr, the Chilean artist continues to delight organic music fans with a lovely remix here. Concise at just over six minutes, there is very much a night vibe happening on this interpretation which doesn't happen that often with organic house these days. Its beefy grooves and excellent percussive arrangements, combined with a sense of mystery and anticipation should work wonders on a dance floor, while also closing the release out on a strong note. Highly recommended.
