Namat – Closer [Polyptych]

Polyptych continues a strong spring season by welcoming Namat to the label for their debut single. Hailing from France, Namat is a production duo in the early stages of their production career. First emerging in 2023 with a single via German imprint 7th Cloud, Namat firmly established themselves as a duo to watch going forward. Also performing as a DJ duo, Namat has been a fixture of Marseille's nightlife, performing at famed venues such as Le Chapiteau alongside side top international talents, most notably Tim Englehardt. Now, continuing to build a production resume, Namat presents their first project of 2024, making their Polyptych debut with 'Closer', alongside a remix from Madben.

Continuing to showcase their timeless sound, Namat finds a perfect balance of pacey club grooves and nostalgic musicality on 'Closer'. Cosmic and poignant in equal measure, it's a foundation of punchy kick drums and clattering percussion which set the stage for warm synth phrasing and heartfelt vocal loops to steal the air. Rather than burst into a dancefloor whirlwind, Namat use a slow burn approach, building tension and energy through a rhythmic break, before break number two brings a sense of serenity and calm, to perfectly segue into a tasteful drop and glowing finale.

The release concludes with Madben making his label debut with the lone interpretation of 'Closer'. With a career that spans well over a decade, French artist Madben has crafted a consistent stream of quality releases since first emerging in 2014 via Bedrock. Moving forward the Paris resident would continue to develop his sound and in turn choosing his projects wisely, adding Ellum and Mobilee to his discography, while continuing to be a constant on Bedrock. Also highly regarded as a DJ, Medben has travelled the world showcasing his unique take on techno, performing at the biggest festivals and trendiest venues, most notably Awakenings, Berghain, and Printworks. With 2024 getting underway with a well-received debut for Atlant, Madben now makes his Polyptych debut with a stunning take on 'Closer'. Opting for a more refined rendition of the track, the French artist conveys the mood from the original beautifully, for a slightly less vocally dominant, yet equally emotive version that's driven by striking stabs, buzzing effects and a quirky lead line; the latter of which proves unpredictable and hugely satisfying, making it perfect for the more astute dancefloors out there. In what is somewhat of a departure for Polyptych, 'Closer' proves to be one of the label's finest releases to date, showcasing new and established talent across two excellent versions. Highly recommended.
