MUUI – Relevant Symmetry I + II [ICONYC]

John Johnson's ICONYC continues to close out the year strong by welcoming MUUI to the label for his debut EP. The Australian born, Berlin based producer has been one of the melodic scenes most fascinating artists in recent years. His live analog approach has seen him land releases on microcastle and Sudbeat, while also earning die hard fans through his much talked about live shows. Now coming off an EP for Univack, MUUI debuts on ICONYC with 'Relevant Symmetry'.

MUUI has developed a distinctive sound that often incorporates a wide spectrum of emotions and such is the case with 'Relevant Symmetry I'. It's dark, dramatic, mysterious and incredibly haunting all at once, as tastefully twisted arps, sheets of noise and symphonic waves unite for a wall of musical colour. Part II dials things back a touch with a roomier groove and a greater focus on atmospheric overlays and bands of effects. I could see the more creative DJs utilizing both of these versions together for a ten minute plus journey of astral artifacts and cosmic storyboarding. Exhilarating yet meditative, these are two brilliant cuts from MUUI and an excellent signing for ICONYC. Highly recommended.
