Releases Mononoid – Kiruna EP [Beatfreak Recordings] By Release Promo Posted on 3rd May 2019 0 second read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Reddit Share on Linkedin D-Formation's Beatfreak Recordings welcomes Mononoid to the label for their debut EP entitled 'Kiruna'. Residing in the Netherlands, Andy Godderis and Igor Shumlyanskiy make up the Mononoid production duo. Upon partnering in 2011, a string of releases on Traum got their career off to a great start. Consistently pushing creative boundaries, their unique take on electronic music has since been showcased on storied labels such as Lost & Found, microCastle and Einmusika. Now fresh off chart topping releases for ICONYC and Movement Recordings, the Dutch duo make their much anticipated Beatfreak debut with ‘Kiruna’. Beginning the title cut Mononoid explores the darker side of their studio repertoire. Free and flowing from the outset, it’s bulbous groove provides a large presence while ethereal hooks and percussive splashes fill in the framework. Stripping down into the main break, clap delays add dramatic moments before melting away into a drummy roll and icy effects as a wave of noise ushers in a mystical finale. The second selection ‘Odin’ follows a similar ethos, leaning further into astral territory. Beginning with a tough, romping groove the piece moves with discernible momentum as sonic aesthetics and rugged rhythms converge for a hearty rhythmic core. Trails of effects fire while free form harmonics and cascading themes begin to build. Icy atmospheres build tension as the second act commences before mesmerizing lines and a subtle build perfectly transfers energy into a powerful drop. The release concludes with ‘Pan Dore’ which presents a myriad of emotions across its eight minute journey. Beginning with a dark, ominous vibe the creation evolves through mounds of bass, waves of percussion and esoteric motifs, eventually transitioning into an emotive state of mind. Deeper than it's predecessors, a poignant centrepiece sits at the core, conveying cinematic overtones as a smooth energy gets broken up by a barrage of claps, leading to a groovy drop and cosmic finale. It rounds out a superb Beatfreak debut for Mononoid, continuing what has been an incredible start to the year for the Dutch duo. Highly recommended.
