Michael A – Elysium [Genesis Music]

Michael A lands back on his Genesis Music imprint with a fresh two track offering entitled 'Elysium'. Likely amidst the best of his career, 2020 has seen the Belarus artist showcase his music on Cid Inc's Replug Records, Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music and Proton Music. Always keeping some of his most sought after productions for his own label as well, Michael now returns to Genesis with a two track showcase.

The groovy, percussive sensibilities of the title selection lead the release off on a strong note. Backed by a full, warm groove; there's a smooth melodic vibe straight away. The drum detail is fantastic, with a maze of beautifully manicured percussive saturating your senses, eventually leading to a vibrant arp which perfectly shifts energy into the main break. There's a quiet calm here to reset the mind, before a powerful build and classy crescendo cues a percussive drop and chord changing finale. Hugely euphoric, it's likely one of Michael's biggest tracks to date.

The companion piece 'Chrystal' slows the tempo a touch for a deeper and equally engaging journey. It’s punchy beats, perfectly contoured bass and percussive waves unite for a tight rhythmic core. Cosmic arps and flurries of effects then advance the narrative with an effortless ease, creating a surreal architecture as the narrative unfolds. Gently building to an effervescent sizzle, the centrepiece captivates with a rare unpredictably, before eventually accelerating to a pulsating final act. It rounds out an inspired EP from Michael, who continues to deliver some of the progressive genre's finest gems this year. Highly recommended.
