Michael A – Deepwater [Ghost Digital Records]

The latest release on Ghost Digital welcomes Michael A back to the label with a new two track EP. The Belarus based artist first appeared on the US imprint in December of 2017 with a remix 'Hyksos' by label boss Tyler Schauman. 2018 yielded his well received 'Wanderer' single along with EPs for Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music and Cid Inc's Replug Records. Now landing back on Ghost Digital Michael presents his much anticipated 'Deepwater' EP.

With some of Michael's more recent material we've heard a trippier side of his studio repertoire and it continues here on the title track. Dark and hypnotic from the outset, astral arps and meditative textures converge for moments of drama and tension, while percussive flurries and emerging atmospheres only add to its mysterious charm. Building to a sonic sizzle, it's the break which eventually melts down the sensory assault, before timely modulation shifts energy into a cosmic finale.

The companion piece 'Delusion' continues the darker, trippy ethos of the EP with an array of astral motifs, all backed by a rolling progressive groove. Beautifully constructed, it’s tight rhythmic framework is adorned with electric designs and atmospheric meanderings, the latter of which ultimately comes to full fruition during the main break as the groove drops for a chugging third act. It rounds out two stunning tracks for Michael which makes for a hugely successful return to Ghost Digital. Highly recommended.
