Manchester based producer Mazayr has been experimenting with electronic music for well over a decade. As a drummer in his youth, Mazayr's love for rhythm and groove eventually found its way into electronic music. After years of perfecting his craft the UK artist made his debut in 2021 with ‘Pipe Dreaming’, a release via Bulgarian imprint Magic Moment. Mazayr's emotive musicality and exotic, dance floor friendly grooves then caught the attention of Canopy Sounds, Musique de Lune, One Of A Kind, Stellar Fountain, The Purr and more, all of which have served as landing spots for his transcendent sound going forward. Also an accomplished DJ, Mazayr has frequented various venues across Manchester, including Pangaea Festival and the infamous Sankeys nightclub. In 2019, he began hosting events and a mix series under the Right Frequency banner to showcase melodic house music. 2024 has proved to be his most prolific production year to date, with four projects recorded across the first four months of the year. Now, fresh off a remix for JFR’s Secret Feelings imprint, a release which highlighted a strong spring season, Mazayr adds roku to his resume with a three-track showcase ‘Without Permission’.

To celebrate the release of his 'Without Permission' EP, Mazayr has curated 10 tracks for deeper dancefloor moments. Enjoy!

Beije – Ikigai [MNL]

Released on Paul Hazendonk’s MNL imprint in 2021, this track epitomizes the deep dancefloor moment for me. A beautiful combination of vocals, plucked bass, and orchestral strings. All coming together for a moment of bliss in the breakdown. Nothing more needs to be said on this one – check it out!

Rauschhaus – Morning Walks [Einmusika]

Another release from 2021, this time on Einmusika, Rauschhaus delivers a wonderful, melodic track. While it has its deeper parts to create moments of reflection, the driving bassline and evolving arp mean this track can still easily fit into a set that keeps the dancefloor going! The perfect combination of melody and energy for me.

Danny Howells – Whiterock [8bit]

I first heard this track at Sonar in 2018 during a set from Michael Mayer and it completely blew me away. Released on 8bit, Danny Howells’ ‘Whiterock’ is definitely more of a dancefloor-ready track compared to some of the others in this list. But, the dark, gritty bassline creates that deep dancefloor moment for sure. One of my all-time favourites!

Bruno Andrada – A Hidden Part Of You [The Soundgarden]

Still probably my favourite release on The Soundgarden, this 10-minute track from Bruno Andrada is an absolute masterpiece. Well placed organic percussion, pulsating arps, magical strings, and almost improvised-like melodies in the breakdown, all make this track a deep journey that can work wonders in the right setting.

Lessovsky – New Ritual [Plaisirs Sonores]

From one of the most consistently high-quality labels around in my opinion, Hicky & Kalo’s Plaisirs Sonores has always been one of my go-to imprints for the unique sound they reliably deliver. This track from 2019 is one I often use and is perfect for a deeper dancefloor moment. The haunting pads, groovy percussion and deep bassline all work well, but it’s the journey this track takes you on that does it for me.

Lee Jones – Wiedersehen [Bar 25]

With over 500k streams on Spotify, this track is far from a secret weapon, but I feel like it deserved more traction than it got when it was released in 2020. It meets the deep dancefloor criteria perfectly. A warm, groovy bassline and haphazard melodic elements bounce around the fundamentals of the track effortlessly. Every time I’ve played this track it’s worked and think it will remain a go-to of mine for years to come!

Michael Mayer – Baumhaus (The Mole Mix) [Kompakt]

I had to include a Michael Mayer track here in some way. Easily one of my biggest inspirations over the years and one of the best selectors if you ever get a chance to see him play! Released back in 2013, The Mole’s take on Michael Mayer’s ‘Baumhaus’ is a deeper dancefloor moment for sure. Loose, organic percussion and deep chords that develop over the progression of the track. Of course, I shared my love for this track when The Mole made a rare appearance in Manchester back in 2015!

Nacho Varela, Cruz Vittor – Jacaranda [Hoomidaas]

From another favourite label of mine, Hoomidaas, ‘Jacaranda’ by Nacho Varela & Cruz Vittor is a beautiful, deep track that can work on the dancefloor early on. The melodic elements hit just right, blending soft keys with a gated melody that dances around the track so well. More often for day party scenarios, this track regularly works its way onto my playlists.

Noraj Cue – Shattered Love [Tale + Tone]

Probably more ‘deep’ than it is ‘dancefloor’, this one is a hidden gem for sure. ‘Shattered Love’ from Noraj Cue is equally both moving and deep. It’s one I don’t often get to play but a great number to round out a mix or wind down a set.

Khen – Voices From The Past [Proton]

I remember listening to Khen’s album from 2016 on Lost & Found and instantly being drawn to his sound. Driving tracks ready for the dancefloor, infused with organic elements that always add to the groove. This one from 2013 must be my favourite though, gradually building anticipation and then unravelling the melodic components at different stages of the track with ease. Another one I’m sure I’ll play for years to come!
