Maulo Partinez – Sunrise by the Sea [Soundteller Records]

7 min read

Maulo Partinez returns to Deersky's Soundteller Records for his debut single 'Sunrise by the Sea'. Pavel Kondratyev aka Maulo Partinez hails from Russia and first appeared on Soundteller in February of 2018 with a contribution to the label's 'Winter Sampler'. His 'Siberian Winter' was one of the collections highlights with it's uplifting progressive sensibility. Now landing a spot on the label once again, Maulo presents his first single alongside remixes from Aman Anand and Hole Box.

The original mix kicks the release off with both groovy and musical qualities. It’s rolling cadence is nicely accentuated with beefy drums, spacey arps and drifting atmospheres. Smooth chord changes and ethereal phrases then further the storyboard, leading to a stripped middle section which builds anticipation through clustered electronics and dynamic claps, before a quick drop resets the groove for a gorgeous finale.

Label artist Aman Anand returns for his third appearance to provide the first remix. The Indian artist first appeared on the Polish imprint close to it's inception, delivering the label's fifth overall release in 2013. 2019 then saw Aman return with a remix of Da Luka's 'Secret City'. Also finding a home on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music, Balkan Connection and One Of A Kind, Aman now lands back on Soundteller with an inspired take on 'Sunrise by the Sea'. Anchored by punchy beats and a fluid groove it’s both smooth and alluring from the outset. Clattering percussion, indistinct vocals and timely effects make for a super sonic maze as the first act begins to take shape. Rugged chord stabs eventually steal the air, adding mightily to the bulbous groove, before an arp led break ups the emotional response for a spirited final movement.

Rounding out the release and providing the second and final interpretation is Hole Box. Also making his third appearance on the label, the Mexican artist closed out 2019 with a well received remix of 'Disorder' by Juan Demincis. Now he lends his remixing vision to Maulo's 'Sunrise by the Sea' with similar success. The tempo shifts down for a considerably deeper vibe, making it a great complement to the previous two mixes. Organic drums, hazy melodic concepts and emerging atmospheres unite across the first act, as phasing vocals and wispy effects transfer energy into a glowing break and buoyant finale. A classy remix from Hole Box which caps off an excellent offering from Soundteller Records once again. Highly recommended.
