Markey Lloyd – Wake Up [Deepwibe Underground]

The latest release from Deepwibe Underground welcomes Markey Lloyd to the label for his debut single. The Russian artist first came to our attention in 2018 with a release on Polyptych where he has gone on to deliver an additional single and remix. Now presenting his first original project of 2020, Markey debuts on Deepwibe Underground with 'Wake Up' alongside remixes from Alex Konstantinov, The Loco and A1bert.

The original mix kicks the release off with a deep, hypnotic quality. It’s smooth cadence is nicely accentuated with bright claps and effervescent shakers. Trippy effects, electric lines and droning swells further the storyboard, building anticipation across the first act. The main break sees a venture into astral territory with rising arps and subtle modulation creating a surreal landscape, before the tough beats drop for a cosmic finale.

The three remixes all add mightily to the original with Alex Konstantinov being first up. The Russian artist stays true to the main themes from the original while crafting a more stripped, rhythmic journey. It starts with a variety of building themes, all beautifully intertwined with a distinctive astral lean. The magic comes during the main break though, spanning nearly two minutes in length, it's choir-like overlays and dreamy cascades are incredibly captivating, and with new rhythmic elements added after the drop the journey stays fresh and exciting throughout.

Returning to the label and providing the second interpretation is The Loco. Fresh off his Teleport-X remix from May, the Russian born, China based artist continues delivering engaging progressive house with a tough yet meditative rendition of 'Wake Up'. The distinctive synth lines from the original get utilized nicely with a tougher complement of percussion and waves of haunting atmospheres encasing the framework.
There’s a brooding tension sitting under those ominous overlays and it’s this contrast which ultimately makes for such a great listen.

Rounding out the release and providing the final interpretation is A1bert who makes his label debut. The Russian artist has found a home on Clinique Recordings and Mystic Carousel Records since first appearing in 2018. Now making his Deepwibe Underground debut, A1bert delivers a spaced out take on 'Wake Up'. It's stripped yet punchy framework provides the perfect foundation for a variety of astral themes to work their magic. It's sense of space is vast with two main motifs working together to create a meditative yet groovy seven minute jaunt. The main break provides just the right dose of tension with it's flickering arps percolating and eventually melting down into a rumbling finale. It caps off another well rounded release for Deepwibe Underground who showcase some of progressive music’s up and coming artists here. Don’t miss it.
