Magician On Duty adds more quality talent to the label, welcoming Marian for his debut EP alongside a remix from Joe Miller. Hailing from the talent rich region of Cordoba, the Argentinean artist has just one discography credit which was the inaugural release on US label Hoomidaas earlier this year. Now making a big jump to Magician On Duty, Marian presents his four track 'Perceptions' artist showcase.

Beginning with the title cut Marian explores deeper grooves and wistful musicality. Crisp yet tastefully organic, the groove is punchy, warm and highly rhythmic. Processed pianos and strummy hooks work incredibly well together, slightly offset at points for a looser, live feel which makes for such an interesting listen, and with a quirky tonal theme coming out of the break you've got a real creative gem here. Moving on to 'Pantheism' we get more musical brilliance with gorgeous arps and warm bass swells. It's the tonal top line which ultimately carries the narrative though, ever evolving it keeps your attention locked while crisp percussion adds a sizeable amount of dance floor fire.

The EP's halfway point is marked with the mid-tempo 'Eleusis'. Clocking in at 108 BPM, it's lazy laid back groove is not only full of great character but sets the perfect foundation for a variety of drifting atmospheres and melancholic meanderings, not the least of which is a gorgeous free form piano motif. The release concludes with ‘Meridian’ which brings the tempo up a touch and again has unique blend of emotive and highly intriguing musical elements. The instrumentation is gorgeous and set against a bulbous groove and finely tuned percussion makes it ideal for a clued up dance floor.

The lone interpretation on the release is provided by Joe Miller who makes his label debut. Whether paired with sometime studio partner Jamie Stevens or solo, Joe is an artist who has carved out a unique place in the electronic underground. His releases on All Day I Dream, Dream Culture and Sag & Tre have all been sensational. Now following a remix for Nie Wieder Schlafen Joe debuts on Magician On Duty with a stunning take on 'Pantheism'. Opting for more of a downtempo/electronica approach the Australian artist takes a cue from the atmospheric leanings of the original for a blissed out excursion into muted tones and creamy design, the latter of which is quite evident during a gorgeous break. A beautiful interpretation from Joe and also our favourite cut on the release. It caps off another inspired offering from Magician On Duty who continue to unearth some of the world's freshest deep house talent. Highly recommended.
