Lupe Republic – Radiant Heart [Or Two Strangers]

Following on from their landmark fiftieth release, Antrim’s Or Two Strangers welcomes Lupe Republic to the label for his debut EP. Based in Buenos Aires, Juan Manuel Guadalupe aka Lupe Republic has been a fixture of Argentina’s nightlife for several years. Performing solo as Lupe Republic or as part of the DondeSea duo, Juan has been delighting crowds with his impeccable taste and exquisite programming skills. Now taking his first steps as a producer under the Lupe Republic alias, Juan debuts on Or Two Strangers with ‘Radiant Heart’.

Sitting comfortably in the creative space between organic and progressive house, it is the title selection which leads the release off. From stripped, DJ friendly beginnings comes a chunky groove, dusty percussion, and deep pulsating rhythms. Emerging across the first act, meandering motifs drift in and out of framework, gently teasing a nostalgic narrative as the main break approaches. Dulcet tones and processed pianos unite as the centrepiece takes shape, adding a serene emotional quality as the beats drop for a gorgeous finale. World class DJ Hernan Cattaneo has been the first to lend his support, showcasing the track on his hugely popular Resident Podcast in February of this year.

The companion piece ‘Strange Heart’ follows with a similar sonic profile and equally impressive musicality. It’s sentimental overtones and heartfelt keys work perfectly over a bed of warm beats, fuzzy bass lines and neatly manicured percussion. Evolving with tasteful restraint, a gentle apex is reached across the main break, as meandering musical themes provide a colourful canopy of sound, eventually giving way to a heady drop and smooth final movement. A reflective piece which caps off an impressive debut EP from Lupe Republic, an artist you will most certainly be hearing a lot more about as the year unfolds.
