Kachelly – Skazka [Soundteller Records]

Continuing an excellent start to 2020 Deersky's Soundteller Records welcomes Kachelly back to the label for a new EP. The worldly artist had a strong 2019 highlighted releases on Nick Warren's The Soundgarden and John Johnson's ICONYC. Now getting the new year off to a great start he presents a four track artist showcase via Soundteller Records.

Beginning with ‘Wilderness’ Kachelly explores a deeper progressive sensibility which sets the tone for the EP. Warm, inviting and undeniably smooth, it’s a creation which quickly captures your imagination, gently pulsing with swing heavy momentum as wispy effects, hazy harmonics and atmospheric drifts further saturate your senses. It's meditative vibes are strong as cross cultural motifs layer the swing heavy framework, advancing the narrative into a mystical break before eventually melting down into a classy drop and smooth finale. The title selection 'Skazka' showcases a deeper side of Kachelly's repertoire with a lower tempo, exotic drums and heartfelt instrumentation. Bird accents add a transcendent lean to the narrative, while the main break sees radiant pads and tasteful modulation provide just the right amount of emotion for a glowing third act.

The EP's halfway point is marked with 'Alya' which continues the deeper organic sensibilities of it's predecessor. The tempo however does come up and with a great progressive vibe as a result. The main motifs are once again achingly gorgeous. From playful tones to free flowing harmonics and a poignant main break, the musicality is incredibly strong throughout. Sitting at the foundation and keeping these great themes firmly on the dance floor is a warm, well contoured groove and once again some superb organic percussion. Rounding out the release is the reflective sounding 'Mermaid'. The transcendent sounds of nature open the track, sitting as a perfect backdrop for a blend of organic beats, exotic drums and a wistful melodic concepts. There's a unique sense of hope locked inside this one, making it perhaps the ideal piece to round out such an impassioned collection of music from Kachelly. An excellent follow up to his 'Viento' EP and a great signing for Deersky's Soundteller Records once again. Highly recommended.
