Russian artist K Loveski has been a beloved figure of the progressive house underground for well over a decade. A series of releases for Omid 16B's Alola Records spearheaded what has been a thirteen-year creative swell. The Saint-Petersburg resident now boasts a resume highlighted by releases via Nick Warren's The Soundgarden, Balance Music, Mango Alley and Or Two Strangers, while also earning the support of Hernan Cattaneo and Guy J along the way. This week finds K Loveski returning to Mark MacLeod's Deep Down Music with an excellent remix of 'Soulspace' by Solis [US].

To celebrate the release of his 'Soulspace' remix, K Loveski has selected ten special tracks for home listening. Enjoy!

My home listening is more like digging some new music of different sorts. But when I have a special moment and I need a certain soundtrack for this chances are that you will hear these tunes. I’ve listened to them hundreds of times, still excited about them and they always set a perfect mood and ambience around.

Talk Talk - Life’s What You Make It

First heard it when it entered UK Top 20 at number 16 on BBC World Service airwaves in 1986. Still remember that day. Amazing band with a fantastic evolution of their sound from new wave/romantic to post-rock/ambient, just compare their first and last albums. Gorgeous tune, deep lyrics and Mike Hollis sings with his heart.

Torch Song - Ballad Of Pearl And John

I’m one of the world’s William Orbit biggest fans. This artist has really shaped my sound. Torch Song is one of his projects and «Towards The Unknown Region» is a pure gem. I’ve listened it on repeat countless times. More of that I used to have this exact tune as my alarm clock for a couple of summers - waking up to it never felt that good, immediately making you confident, romantic and flawless. Just try once.

Solar Fields - Respiratory Rate

There could possibly another one from Magnus Birgersson, and to be honest I had to search through my Solar Fields playlist to choose one. One of the best space electronica artist out there - rich soundscapes, crisp production, heavenly melodies. Cosmic chilling.

Orbital - Semi-Detached

A game changing tune from this legendary duo and perhaps their best one. Taken from fantastic Trance Euro Express compilation from 1993, I still got extremely entertaining booklet from it at home. The future sounds of electronica, trance and progressive house are all there. Just brilliant. Make sure your doors are locked and your phone is off for these 9 minutes.

Laurie Anderson - Blue Lagoon

I remember listening to it while being still at junior school. It sounded like an out of space piece of music - very relaxing and bravely experimental. And it still is now. Probably the best soundtrack to Shakespeare’s poetry ever. Laurie Anderson is a cult person, sort of a litmus paper for us while we were 15 years old - you can’t have much in common with someone who does not know Laurie Anderson, innit?

Rain Tree Crow - Every Colour You Are

David Sylvian is another cult figure in modern art. From his early years with Japan, one of the most underrated bands in music history, to his solo career - always a symbol of style, class and underground culture. Gorgeous man with one of the sexiest voices around. This one is taken from a one-off reunion project of former Japan members called Rain Tree Crow. Stunning.

Ulrich Schnauss - Between Us And Them

Another strong influence for me. I was lucky to personally meet Ulrich while he was having a gig in St. Petersburg many years ago. Such a nice and humble guy (what could you expect?). We were talking about My Bloody Valentine and pirate radio surfing as a defining episodes in our careers. Taken from his debut album. A marriage made in heaven of shoegaze and electronic music.

My Bloody Valentine - Soon

An obvious one after previous entry. Once described by Brian Eno as «the future of pop music». It definitely is, at least for me. An ultimate shoegaze anthem, it makes you believe that, yes, something nice will happen soon. Just take a look how Bilinda is dancing on this video. Still sounding fresh after (you’re joking) 34 years.

Alex Cortiz - Room 505

One of the secret heroes of dance music. Dutch producer Aad De Mooij, known also as D-Shake and it’s super inspiring tunes from golden age House Music era from early 90s - "Yaaaaaaaaaah" and "Techno Trance (Paradise Is Now)".

This tune I used as an intro to my regular local radio show for many years, so it’s sort of part of my image here as well. Cosmic dub flavour. Got it on vinyl.

Aphex Twin - We Are The Music Makers

Taken from his genius debut LP «Selected Ambient Works 85-92» which completely blew my mind at the time. It was so influential for me that by then I was seriously planning to play tunes from it in my prime-time set at house parties and raves. I was sure that it would capture everybody’s attention immediately and fill the dance floor. And I did it a couple of times. Revolutionary album with lots of great tracks.
