Russian artist K Loveski has been a beloved figure of the progressive house underground for well over a decade. A series of releases for Omid 16B’s Alola Records spearheaded what has been a thirteen-year creative swell. The Saint-Petersburg resident now boasts a resume highlighted by releases via Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden, Balance Music, Mango Alley and Or Two Strangers, while also earning the support of Hernan Cattaneo and Guy J along the way. Meanwhile, Argentinean artist Nicolas Benedetti has enjoyed a quick rise since first emerging in 2019 with releases via 3rd Avenue, Droid9 and Or Two Strangers affiliate Strangers Beats. The Buenos Aires resident would quickly earn the praise of progressive music tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Alex O'Rion, Mariano Mellino, Nicolas Rada and more, while landing key projects via Balkan Connection, onedotsixtwo and SLC-6 Music. Now, combining their extensive forces for the first time, K Loveski and Nicolas Benedetti unveil a three-track showcase for Or Two Strangers entitled ‘Laurana’. The release begins with the duo masterfully synthesizing their talents into the progressive anthem that is ‘Laurana’. Mountainous grooves and wavy lines make for a smooth hip swinging energy, while cosmic creativities and ethereal phrasing add colour and depth across the first movement. Rhythm remains locked, while energy multiples with each successive pass, as percolating synth maneuveres and robotized vocals provide a bridge into the main break. Tension peaks across the interlude with colourful sonics and collapsing waves of light uniting in a pyrotechnic vortex, perfectly setting the stage for a thrilling finale. The second selection ‘Spiral Nothing’ continues the pure progressive lean of the release with cosmic effects and driving percussion arrangements blanketing a character-rich capsizing groove. A touch more atmospheric than its predecessor, misty sonics provide a colourful backdrop for sweeping effects and clustered stabs to drive energy into a memorable break. The intuitive musical dialogue held between the duo is impressive across the centrepiece, as melodic coaxes and soulful synth phrasing emerge for moments of meditative bliss, as the beats drop for a groove-centric finale. Deeper and more elusive still is the third and final selection ‘Fashionably Late’. Thematically distinct, as funked-up bass stabs and kaleidoscopic effects ring out in timeless suspension, creating a utopian narrative where indistinct vocals and enlightening rhythms resonate in a rare combination of atmosphere and groove.
