Opening the new year in style, Musique de Lune welcomes Julian Nates back to the label for his debut EP. Born and raised in Argentina, Julian has emerged from his country's progressive music landscape. Noted for his attention to detail and inventive percussive arrangements, Julian's craft shines through vividly, making each one of his creations an exhilarating experience. Choosey in his projects, the Cordoba resident lays claim to an impressive resume, highlighted by releases via Nick Warren's The Soundgarden and Antrim's Or Two Strangers, while progressive music tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Guy J have been steadfast supporters along the way. Having made his debut with a contribution to the label's 'Rayons De Lune' collection, Julian now makes a welcome return to the label with 'Crystal Eyes', alongside a remix from Tristan Case, Covsky and FRAIS aka Inherent.

EP opener and title selection ‘Crystal Eyes’ finds Julian operating at the peak of his creative powers. Fuelled by rhythm and groove; it’s rippling basslines and flickering percussive arrangements resonate on a transcendent level. Fluid and energetic across the first movement, Julian continues his stylized ways with euphoric chord stabs, hopeful pads and glowing effects creating a colourful path into the main break. Sitting comfortably in an uplifting yet thought provoking space, submerged beats rise out of buzzing synths as the interlude evolves, eventually spearheading a groove-centric drop and pulsating finale. Beneath the powerful waves of 'Crystal Eyes' lies the crunchy design of 'Maat Mons'. Packed to the hilt with drive and tension, its rhythmic spirit is something Julian seems to relish in, as he flexes a hypnotic side of his studio repertoire. A genuine exchange of melody and groove provide the narrative, where themes of introspection get translated by infectious leads, fuzzed out tones and evolving atmospheres.

The release concludes with Tristan Case, Covsky and FRAIS aka Inherent making their label debut with the lone interpretation of 'Maat Mons'. While maintaining the elusive spirit of the original, the Aussie trio crafts a sweeping sonic experience all their own, a blissful journey into a balmy utopia, where panoramic designs surface from warm key changing grooves, onwards to an uplifting finale. A stunning remix from Inherent, which rounds out an excellent return to Musique de Lune for Julian Nates, a rare talent who continues to impress with two of his best works to date here. Highly recommended.
